Steven Paul Rash Sr., of Stansbury Park, passed away in his home on July 29, 2025. Steve was only 10 days away from celebrating his 71st Birthday. Steve was born on August 9, 1954, in Lincoln Illinois. He was the middle child of 3 children. Steve's family moved to Excelsior Springs Missouri when he was around 8 years old which is where he spent his childhood and early adult life. Steve graduated from Excelsior Springs Highschool in 1972. He married Cheryl Dianne Walker in 1975. Together they had 2 boys– Steven Paul Jr (1977) and Jonathan Andrew (1979). They spent 5 years together in Excelsior Springs where Steve began his career in the trucking industry. Steve's early career started by driving truck with his father for National Carriers as an owner-operator. They drove together for 3 years until Steve's father's untimely death in 1979– he was only 48 years old. Steve continued driving truck, operating under the handles "Rawhide" and "Bootlegger". Driving truck is ultimately what led to him meeting his second wife, Cindy Lee Wilson, whom he would spend the next 40 years of his life with. Steve and Cindy were married on March 31, 1982, in Miami Oklahoma, only 4 months after meeting. They traveled the country together for 2 years as team truck drivers for National Carriers where they made many wonderful friends and had some wild adventures. Their daughter, Kaylee Beth, was born in 1984; then in 1991 they made their home in Stansbury Park Utah. They raised their children together while Steve continued to pursue his career in the trucking industry. Steve excelled in the industry, eventually becoming Terminal Manager for OverNite Transportation in Salt Lake City, achieving terminal of the year awards multiple times throughout his tenure. He was also Regional Manager for Mergenthaler Transport. Steve retired in 2023 from SAIA Trucking after a very successful 45-year career. Steve worked tirelessly throughout the years to provide for his family, but he also knew how to have fun. Annual hunting and camping trips with his kids top the list, along with vacations to the Bahamas, Harley Davidson rides, fishing trips on their boat "Our Dream", trips to the sand dunes, and some very competitive (almost dangerous) pinochle games around the kitchen table with family and friends. Steve suffered an intracranial hemorrhage in the Spring of 2023– only one year after losing his sweet wife Cindy. He made a miraculously quick recovery– and while his injury forced him to slow down, it didn't rob him of his humor and wit. Steve was silly when he wanted to be, and serious when he needed to be. He was a giant of a man– he had a deep, rumbly, southern-accented voice and large, calloused hands. He possessed the gift of gab and could spin a tall tale like nobody's business. He could stop you dead in your tracks with just a look– and then wrap you in a bear hug the next moment. He loved his family fiercely, had a tender spot for his little chihuahua CeeCee, and was a true and loyal friend. He will be sorely missed by everyone who loved him. Steve is preceded in death by his mother and father, Daniel Rash & Kathryn Tabb (Barber); and his wife, Cindy Lee Rash (Wilson). He is survived by his children, Steven Paul Rash Jr (Nicole), Jonathan Andrew Rash, & Kaylee Dedman (Eric); his grandchildren, LCpl Beau Daniel Rash (USMC), Gwendalynn Rash, & Maddison Dedman; his brother Daniel Rash (Cindy) & his sister Brenda Weible (Larry); and his cousins, nieces, nephews and many dear friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Tate Mortuary, 110 S Main Street, Tooele UT 84074, on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 2:00pm. Prior to the service a viewing will take place from 1:00-2:00pm.
