Steve worked on my late wife's real estate team 20 years ago, after he retired from the state. We developed a friendship then and we even bought Aggie season tickets for a number of years together. Steve and his love, Valerie, were staples of the community and of the golf club and gained many friends from that. We also developed a business relationship and spoke regularly about his plans. He always was plain-spoken and tough but true to his word. He loved you, Val, and was so proud of Shawn and Alison. And, of course, he was googles about his 3 grandchildren- lighting up whenever he spoke of them. We'll all miss Steve Schkade.

I knew Steven since 3rd grade. We played all touch football and baseball in the neighborhood every week-end and he was the best athlete I ever knew. He was always nice to me, even though he was older and always let me play, as the only girl in all the games. I grew up watching him in all the sports he played and he was always my athlete idol. He was also my very first crush as a little girl and continued all through high school. We both went to A&M, and stayed friends since we had Giddings in common. I remember seeing him on several plane trips through the years and we would catch up with each of our lives, as well as some Giddings events.
I always admired him and was so happy to see him. Steven sent me a beautiful letter
after I lost my Dad that was a tremendous comfort to me. I´ll always remember him
driving around in his cool green Camaro! I will miss you my kind, special friend.
