Steven Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by A Natural State Funeral Service & Crematory on Mar. 17, 2026.
Steven J Smith, age 76, of North Little Rock, Arkansas passed away on March 14, 2026 with his wife and his brother by his side. He was born in Atlanta, GA on July 8, 1949 to James B. Smith and Virginia Kirkland Smith.

Steven is preceded in death by his parents James and Virginia Smith.

He is survived by his wife Evelyn Smith, his brother Russell Smith, Richard Hendricks, Alex Smith, Gabriel Smith, Agnes Lobo, Stephanie Purvis, Shara Purtle, Jonathan Purvis, and numerous other loved ones and friends.

Memorials can be made to Arkansas Paws in Prison Foundation.

Steven was an artist – a painter, a sketcher, a wordsmith, a soldier in the United States Army during the Vietnam war, a Letter Carrier with the US Postal Service for 30 years, loved by his patrons, rescuer of and best friend to animals, a welcome diversion for the forlorn and playful at heart, a mentor for the curious, cherished by his friends and family, soul mate to his brother, the devotion and twin flame of his spouse and the love of her life for 40 years. "We travel as one."

To Steve,

What is this yellow and pink and white that has you astonished, bewildered as a child?

But you can't say, the words aren't yours.

First you're standing at a gate, a door perhaps, twice – you say – standing in the darkness until the color and light appear.

They show themselves past dead of night – I'm yearning for just a little more, to reveal itself – through that tenacious door.

If colors are the only clue – So be it, for you are an artist, dear.

Follow, then, to the pastel bright.

As I live and breathe, I will find you there.

-E. L. Smith
