I met Steve in 1971 at SFCC. He was one of the Shadle grads that I met. We had a lot of friends in common. I played many pickup sports games with him in those days. Steve was a good golfer, pool shot, athlete, and poker player. We called him "Shoe" because of his punting talent. He was also a comedian. When I moved back from WSU in 1980, he shared his home with me. I lived there until he got married. We had a lot of fun during the 70's and 80's. After moving I began teaching and didn't see Steve very often. I should have made a better effort to stay in touch. Those days I spent with Steve and our friends were a happy time in my life.

Our friendship began in Junior High (Glover). We often rode our bikes to Downriver GC to play golf or simply chip and putt for pennies with a few other friends. Always good hearted, a friend to all, loved his family, never complained about his circumstances, funny as heck, athletic ... I admired many things about Steve but I was always jealous of his sweet ( Fred Couples) swing. Steve was a best man at my wedding. I loved Steve and I will miss him dearly.

Steve was so special! He befriended my brother Mark the first day they met in 5th grade and they were best friends ever since. Steve touched every person he ever met. How lucky all of us are to have known him.

Steve Shaw welcomed me to Spokane when I moved November 1, 1963 to Spokane, after grade 5 had already begun. My first and most loyal, best buddy. That is us in January 1970, Junior year, and at my wedding, August 2, 1980. We were Rowan & Rowan (as opposed to Rowan and Martin. Neither of us were the "straight" man because we were both stupidly hilarious! He always asked me, "who threw you the most touchdowns in your life"? Of course it was him! He was a gifted athlete whom had excellent hand eye coordination. Golf, pool, kicking, catching, throwing, batting, whatever. Nobody disliked Steve...NOBODY. Rest in peace my friend. So sorry your latter years were robbed from you for severe medical reasons. Yet, he never lost his humor or spirit; we just lost him.
