Steven H. Timmons

Steven (Steve) Howard Timmons, 56, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 5th, surrounded by the love of his children. Steve was born Sunday, May 18, 1969, in Marion, Indiana, because even from the very beginning, Steve preferred a weekend entrance, living his life the same way he entered the world: on his own terms and with a little extra flair and fun!

He was welcomed by his parents, the late Howard and Eileen (Humes) Timmons, and from that day forward, life around him was never quiet for long although he’d often point out when others talked too much despite him having the same trait. Steve was later blessed in marriage to Sam Timmons, his partner in life and laughter until her passing in 2024.

A graduate of Marion High School, Steve excelled in soccer, back when his knees and legs still cooperated without negotiation. Sports weren’t just something he enjoyed; they were practically a calling. If you ever dared to golf with Steve, you quickly discovered three universal truths:

He loved the game.He believed you needed coaching, whether you asked for it or not.You weren’t there to win, he was.

Steve spent most of his life in Marion, aside from a brief, sun-soaked wild and care free stint to Florida where he embraced life to the fullest as a local bartender. After returning home, he worked in several manufacturing facilities before taking to the open road as an over-the-road truck driver. He eventually found his way to Asplundh Tree Service, where his larger-than-life personality followed him onto every job site, guaranteed to share a joke or laugh!

His devotion to sports was unwavering. Steve proudly shouted “Boom Baby!” for the Indiana Pacers and faithfully dedicated every Sunday to cheering on the Indianapolis Colts, convinced that this was finally their year. Every year. Optimism, after all, is a spiritual gift.

But Steve’s love of sports went far beyond spectating. He coached countless PAL Club teams in soccer, baseball, and basketball, pouring his heart into not only his own children but also the many young athletes fortunate enough to call him Coach. His lessons often extended beyond the field: hustle hard, laugh loud, and always show up for your team.

To know Steve was to never feel like a stranger. He collected lifelong friends like trophies, brothers in everything but blood. As the years passed, his circle only widened. He was the life of every party, the instigator of every laugh, and firmly believed that a good time wasn’t optional, it was mandatory. You could always count on him to bust out the best dance moves on any dance floor he found and often would make his own dance floor if one wasn’t nearby.

Steve leaves behind a legacy far louder than any stadium. Left to cherish his memories are his six daughters: Ashley (Kegan) Timmons, Amber (Braeden) Timmons, Jamie (Michael) Gillespie, Alisha (Allen) Jackson, Sarah (Skyler) Warren, and Crystal McIntire. One son: Michael (LaKesha) Sluder. Seven grandchildren: Kyle and Lucas Gillespie; Alaynah and Allen Jackson; Bryce Coburn; Nova Warren; and Hailey Sluder.One brother, Gary (Pam) Timmons and sister n law Rena Timmons along with many nieces and nephews who knew Uncle Steve as the humor and mischief-maker at every family gathering as well as other extended family members.

He also leaves behind his lifelong childhood friends Jack Havens, Jimmy Cope, Johnny Cope, and Tim Bolden, as well as Bob Pauley and so many other dear friends who shared countless stories, laughs, and probably a few friendly debates about the Colts’ chances each year.

In addition to his parents and his wife Sam, Steve was preceded in death by his brother Ronnie Timmons; his sisters Connie Timmons and Vicky Goodykoontz; his brother-in-law Otis Goodykoontz; and his nephew Derek Bailey.

If you wish to honor Steve’s memory, the family requests you do so properly: wear your Colts gear, your Pacers colors, or any sports attire that says, “I came to cheer.” Because if Steve taught us anything, it’s that life is better when you show up loud, loyal, and ready to have a good time.

Somewhere above, there’s a golf course with no sand traps, a pool set to the perfect temperature, a fun-filled dance floor and a Sunday game where finally, it’s their year.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, March 9, 2026, from 4:00 - 6:00 PM at Raven Choate Robinson Funeral Home, 1202 W. Kem Rd., Marion, Indiana 46952. Funeral services will be held immediately following visitation. Rev. Darrell Smith will officiate.
