Stuart Vaughn Hollenshead, 64, of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, unexpectedly passed away on December 17, 2024.
Born on March 3, 1960, he was the beloved son of the late Ray V. Hollenshead and Jean Zimmerman Hollenshead. He had two sisters, Sheila Hollenshead Snider (Ty) and Stacy Hollenshead-Garonzik.
Stuart was a proud member of the James Buchanan High School class of 1978. After graduation, he joined his parents in running the family farms outside of Mercersburg. Stuart played a pivotal role in enhancing the family's Holstein dairy herd alongside his father and mother, recognized as one of the highest-producing herds of its size in the nation. Later, he transitioned to raising beef cattle.
A passionate outdoorsman, Stuart found joy in deer hunting and spending time on the land he cherished with his family. His quick wit and sharp sense of humor kept everyone on their toes, and his deep commitment and loyalty to family, sports and farming helped to define him.
Stuart's love for sports inspired him to build a basketball court in his barn loft, where his children and their friends spent countless hours playing pickup games. As a youth basketball coach, he led competitive teams and instilled in his players a love for the game - many of whom still call him "Coach".
Stuart is survived by his wife, Tracy; his sons, Stuart Hollenshead Jr., Shase Hollenshead (Cindel), and Sawyer Hollenshead; and his cherished grandchildren, Sloane and Nolan Hollenshead, who brought him endless joy. He was preceded in death by twin sons, Shane and Shawn.
Private services will be held for the family in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to JB Athletic Boosters.
