Stuart Linas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Feldman Mortuary - Denver on Jan. 20, 2026.
Obituary of Stuart Lee Linas

Stuart Linas, MD, beloved husband, father, grandfather, physician, mentor, and friend, died on Monday, January 19 th 2026, leaving a legacy that spans family, medicine, and generations of physicians shaped by his wisdom and generosity.

Stuart was the devoted husband of Trudi, his partner for 57 years in all things that mattered. He was a proud and loving father to Ben, Keri, and Beth and a deeply adoring grandfather to Ava, Eloise, Violet, Sasha, Casper, and Orly, who brought him endless joy and whose lives will always carry his quiet strength.

The Rocky Mountain Professor of Renal Research at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Stuart was a towering figure in academic medicine-not because he sought the spotlight, but because his intellect, integrity, and steadiness naturally drew people to him. He served with distinction as Treasurer of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), helping to guide one of medicine's most important institutions with the same calm rigor he brought to his science and leadership.

Stuart was a mentor to hundreds of physicians, many of whom now lead clinical services, research laboratories, and mentoring programs across the world. He generated influence not by ambition, but through thoughtful questions, careful listening, and his unwavering belief in the people he guided. He taught medicine, but more importantly, he taught how to be a physician.

To his friends and colleagues, Stuart was a steady presence- a rock in the middle of turbulence and a light in the dark when clarity was hard to find. He had a gift for offering wisdom that was both simple and unforgettable. One of his favorites- "Open your eyes before your mouth" -was vintage Stu: practical and gently disarming, delivered with a knowing smile.

Stuart Linas lived a life of purpose, service, and quiet excellence. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the trainees he shaped, the institutions he strengthened, and the countless patients he helped by his work. May his memory always be a blessing to the people of Israel and to the entire world. Zichrono Livracha

I will always remember Stu as the "much older" brother to Anne! His faithful following of the Orioles and Colts act as a constant reminder of his Baltimore heritage.

Dr. Linas was my attending while I was a nephrology fellow at CU over 22 years ago. I often thought about him since then. I feel I am a better doctor after having him as my mentor and attending physician . It was truly a privilege to know him. He was excellent as a mentor, teacher, and doctor. As a person, he was kind. He was a good man.

He has truly left a legacy behind, having trained and thought so many doctors.

Thank you, Stu, for everything that you taught me!

Stu will be dearly missed. He was one in a million.
Working for his department was indeed a privilege. I didn't know how good I had it till I left. But what I cherish most is the genuine love, kindness and wisdom he shared with regards to my mother's illness, and later mine. Forever grateful for the light he graced us with. Rest in peace Stu!!

Stu was a great man as well as a great doctor. I was his barber for all the years he was in Denver and a good friend as well. I will miss him very much, He was also one of the best sports fans ever. Stu I will never forget you dear friend, Dick Alderson your barber.

Stu:

Such a loss to the nephrology community, and even greater deprivation of your presence to your friends, and family. I thought we always had time to `get together´ , therefore we kicked making plans to the curb `for now´. And, as we all know, time indeed eludes us, as we stall forging a date to get together. Time ran out!

Lessons learned for sure.

So many lovely memories. I was always in awe of your patient teaching methodology with the nephrology fellows. You were quick to smile, and laugh-and slow to show displeasure or anger. Your knowledge base was phenomenal. You are among the stars now, Stu-making the universe a little brighter. Jerry and I fondly recall dinners spent with you and Trudi. Always light and enlightening!

I am missing you already, mio amico
