Sue Collen Obituary
Sue Ellen (McCurdy) Collen was born March 3, 1946, in Bagley, Minnesota, to Robert W. and Lorraine (Furuseth) McCurdy. She was raised in Park Rapids and graduated from Park Rapids High School in 1964. Following her education she remained in Park Rapids until moving to Naperville, Illinois, in 1986. In Naperville, Sue worked at Mill Street Dental and Morgan Stanley. On July 13, 1996, Sue married Ronald C. Collen at Lake Belle Taine near Nevis, Minnesota. After marriage they made their home in Naperville until moving to Northfield in 2004.
Sue was a member of the Northfield Golf Club, where she and Ron established many close friendships. She enjoyed reading, gardening, flowers, camping and traveling. She loved spending time with her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she cherished the time she spent with some of her closest girlfriends. She was talented at interior design and had an innate sense of style and class. Sue was quick witted & fun loving, and she was always a reliable listening ear & loyal confidant. Sue was known for her unfaltering positivity and sense of resolve. As the rock of her family, she was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her husband of 28 years Ron; her daughters Kimberly (Douglas) Day of Maple Grove, Kelly Bergman of Northfield; her grandchildren Adam (Laura) Ward, Regan (Elliot) Schaff, Kennedy Day, Levi Bergman, Kayla (Xavier) Rodriguez Soto, Sarah (Kirby) Johnson; her great-grandchildren Conner, Avery, Ashlyn, Spencer, Bentley, Roman, Lucious, Jamison, Kinsley, Livvy, Decker; her brother Tom (Marlene) McCurdy of Port Angeles, WA; her brother-in-law Kenneth (Lena) Collen of Naperville, IL; her sister-in-law Nancy (Fred) Spenser of Naperville; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A gathering to celebrate Sue's life will be held from 1-4pm on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Northfield Golf Club. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.
