Sue Johnson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Allen-Summerhill Funeral Home & Crematory - DeLand on Dec. 15, 2025.
Eleanor "Sue" Johnson, 79, of Deltona, Florida, passed away on December 14, 2025, in her daughter's home to an aggressive form of cancer. She was born in Akron, OH on October 19, 1946, to John and Stella Sanders. She was the youngest of nine children.

Sue became a volunteer for the Red Cross back in 1969 and served one year in Vietnam during the war. She married her soulmate Leon "Buddy" Johnson on June 27, 1970, after they both returned from Vietnam. She began her career working for the Smithsonian Institution and then the Red Cross. After returning to the United States, she worked for a prominent law firm in Maryland and continued that career when she moved to Florida. After many years, Sue began working for Brunswick Corporation in Deland in the personnel department and "retired" from there after 17 years of service. After her husband passed away in 1998 Sue began working for an assisted living facility before her and her daughter Michelle decided to open and co-own their group home, Developing Futures Care. She took PRIDE working for people with developmental disabilities. She instilled so much love into the residents, and they became a part of our family.

She was an active member of the Journey Church in Orange City and attended weekly bible study classes. She was a devoted Christian and believed strongly in her faith.

She was a loving and dedicated mother, sister, aunt and friend who lived passionately, and always spiritually rooted in God. Sue is survived by her son David (Louise), daughter Michelle (Tony), honorary daughter, Sheri Clark, nephew, Neil, three grandsons Blake, Adam and Kaleb, six great-grandchildren Michele, Arabella, Meilani, Gianni, Amanni and Kai and her dear friends Sheila, Sandy, Eleanor and Betty.
