LANCASTER, SC ~ Ms. Sue Gooch Kirk, age 89, entered her heavenly home on Friday, January 23, 2026. She was born June 26, 1936, in Lancaster, SC, the daughter of the late Edward Crawford Gooch and the late Bessie Mae Bennett Gooch. Ms. Kirk worked faithfully for many years as Assistant Vice President of Claims for Kanawha Insurance Company until her retirement. A lifelong member of Douglas Presbyterian Church, she was a devoted Christian woman whose faith was evident in her daily life. She found great joy in sharing God’s word and was known for giving Bibles, devotionals, and books of scripture to others. She loved traveling to the beach, thrifting, and spending time with those she loved most. Above all, Ms. Kirk cherished her family, especially her beloved grandchildren, who brought her immense happiness.
Ms. Kirk is survived by her son, Allen Kirk, and his wife, Cindy; her two grandchildren, Ashley Kirk, and Dillon Kirk; and her special nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by parents, Edward and Bessie Gooch; and her five siblings, Crawford Gooch, Joe Gooch, Henry Gooch, Ann Gooch Powers, and Nancye G. Gardner.
The Celebration of Life Graveside Service for Ms. Kirk will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at Douglas Presbyterian Church Cemetery officiated by Rev. Rob Jones. The family will receive friends following the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Douglas Presbyterian Church, Cemetery Fund, 2325 Sunday Place, Lancaster, SC 29720.
The family of Ms. Kirk would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff and caregivers at The Grove of Lancaster for the exceptional love, compassion, and care provided over the past five years.
