Bethel Springs: Martha Sue Rowland, age 78, passed away September 18, 2025, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
She was born November 18, 1946, in Morris Chapel, the daughter of the late Leonard Andrew and Lois Presley Flatt. She married Gaylon Rowland on November 22, 1969, and they made their home at Bethel Springs in Chester County. They were married fifty-one years. Mr. Rowland preceded in death September 19, 2020.
She enjoyed yard work, growing flowers, gardening, canning, and raising chickens. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved her family and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She attended The Highlands Church at Finger.
She is survived by a daughter Alesha Wallis and husband Jason of Bethel Springs, two grandchildren: Alyssa Crouse (Adam) and Nicholas Wallis (Chloe) and two great grandchildren Julianna Crouse and Myles Crouse, four brothers: Lee Flatt of Bethel Springs, Johnny Flatt of Jacks Creek, Roy Flatt of Masseyville, and James Ray Flatt of Jackson, two sisters: Lillian Hatch of Masseyville and Dee Vandiver of Bolivar.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers: Glynn Flatt, Robert Flatt, and Thomas Flatt and two sisters: Betty Johnson, Maudie Britt, and a half-sister Audry Mooney.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Tuesday at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel with burial to follow at Palestine Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday.
