In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a fund to convert Runion Park to an all-inclusive park. Please write checks to NH/All-Inclusive and "Jim and Sue Schueth" on the memo or "for" line, and send them to New Hampton Parks and Recreation, 112 E. Spring St, New Hampton, IA 50659".
Sue was born February 21, 1932, in Virden, IL, the daughter of Milton and Louise (Boswell) Petrie. She grew up in Abingdon, IL, moved to Cedar Rapids, IA in 1945, and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1950.
She enrolled at the University of Iowa in the fall of that year where she met her future husband, Jim Schueth. They were married on August 5, 1952 at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in 2015.
Sue and Jim spent their first year together as wife and husband in Northeastern Texas, Perrin Air Force, as part of Jim's Air Force commitment. In 1953, they moved back to New Hampton and Jim joined his father at Schueth Ace Hardware where Sue served as a bookkeeper for many years.
Sue and Jim owned three homes over the years in New Hampton - on West Spring Street, North Chestnut Avenue, and Fleur Drive.
Sue chaired the board of the Homestead Cooperative when it was incorporated in September of 1993 and lived in a unit there after Jim passed from 2016 through 2019.
Sue was known for dressing in an elegant and classy manner, and her favorite color was purple. She loved to play the piano, socialize with her friends, play cards and bake for her grandchildren.
She also loved to travel. Her favorite domestic destinations were San Francisco and San Antonio, Texas, although she enjoyed visiting many parts of the United States. Internationally, she traveled to Italy, Croatia, Slovakia, Greece, Germany, England, and several other countries. But her most cherished trips were to see her family, especially her children, but also aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She loved antiques, especially furniture. Her home was filled with them, and she and Jim would often be seen at auctions in and around New Hampton, and further away as well. For a time, Sue and Jim had an antique business. They also collected Abingdon Pottery. It was important to them because Sue's uncle was one of its designers.
Survivors include three sons: Steven (Darla) Schueth, Boulder, CO; Peter (Sherrie) Schueth, Indianapolis, IN; Tony (Andrea) Schueth, Saint Johns, FL. Seven grandchildren: Sam Schueth, Dayna Schueth, Nathan Schueth, Taylor Schueth, Samantha Schueth, Leticia Schueth, and Ashley Schueth. Five great-grandchildren: Joshua Dias, Jackson Schueth, Quintin Schueth, Raegan Schueth, and Logan Schueth. Brother, Jeff Petrie, Des Moines, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Jim, on October 21, 2015.
