Sue Veer Obituary

Evadne Sue Veer, 73, of Greenwood, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, August 26, 2025, while comforted in love by her children.

Born December 21, 1951, in Springfield, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Kathrine Whitsell Smith and William Arthur Smith. After Sue's mother passed, her father married the love of his life, Mary Louise Glasser-Smith who, although not her birth mother, was Sue's mother in every sense until the day Mary went to be with the Lord.

Sue was a proud graduate of Merritt Island High School in Florida. She went on to earn her B.A. from Carlow University, attended Penn State University, and later received her MBA from Winthrop University. She enjoyed traveling, sailing, swimming, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and loved attending her grandchildren's sports activities. Sue always enjoyed welcoming family and friends to enjoy a home-cooked meal or to try one of the new recipes that she picked up during her travels.

A dedicated professional in the healthcare field, Sue served as CEO of Carolina Health Centers at the time of her passing. She previously worked at Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh and Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC. Her contributions to public health were extensive, including active membership in the Primary Healthcare Association and the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC). She testified numerous times before Congress in support of the 340B Drug Pricing Program and the continued funding of community health centers - advocacy that shaped access to healthcare for underserved communities.

She is survived by her three children: Amanda Faith Petroski (Andrew), and Hope Ronson Gauthier, both of Greenwood, and Robert Stephen "Bobby" Nestle, Jr. (Carol) of Poplarville, MS; her sister, Susan Lee Glasser of Pittsburgh, PA; and four brothers: Frederick Glasser of Westerville, OH; Philip Glasser (Joyce) of Overland Park, KS; Edward Glasser (Lani) of Everett, WA; and Richard Glasser (Kitty) of Pittsburgh, PA.

She was the proud grandmother of nine: Halie Nestle, Sydney Nestle, Chloe Todd, Meadow Gauthier, Alina Petroski, Piper Petroski, Lex Petroski, Gabe Petroski, and Jordyn Leigh Ladner.

In addition to her father and both mothers, she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Jamiee Suzanne Veer; her sister, Martha Ann Smith; and her sister-in-law, Kathrine Glasser.

All friends, family, community members, and those whose lives were touched by Sue are warmly invited to join us in celebrating her life on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 4:00 PM at Blyth Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Carolina Health Centers, Benevolence Fund, 313 Main Street, Suite B, Greenwood, SC 29646.

Yesterday

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Sue. I send my love and sympathies to you: her family, staff and closest friends. I am sure the void in your circle feels like a chasm. For Health Centers accross the Country and US territories it feels like that for us also. Sue was so generous with her heart, her grit and her passion for doing the right thing in all things. She had an unsinkable joy about her that made you feel like you were in it to win (even when it looked like we were losing). And win she did! She was an inspiration and a great leader. My thoughts are with you in this sad time of memory and loss. My prayers are that you find comfort in all the incredible, joy filled moments of your recollections. May perpetural light shine on her may she rest in peace.
