Sue Ward Obituary
Sue is survived by her husband of 66 years, "Henry" William V. Ward of Rougemont. She is also survived by her 3 sons, Mark Antrim of Rougemont, Timothy Kyle (Terri) of Knoxville, Tennessee & Jeremy Sean (Michelle) of Rougemont; 5 grandchildren William Kyle Ward (Katherine) of Clayton, Monica Darby Ward of Clayton, Alex Temple Ward of New York City, Dr. Maxwell Whitfield Ward (Dr. Jessica Bradley) of Roanoke, VA, & Nicholas Charles Ward of Rougemont; three great grandchildren: Will, Addison & Mackenzie of Clayton. Sue is also survived by four sisters: Mary Lou Holt of Maryland, Ruth Baker & Juanita Ross of Durham and Patricia Whitfield of Greensboro along with many nieces and nephews.
Sue was preceded in death by three brothers: Milton Whitfield, Ira Whitfield & James (Jay) Whitfield.
Sue was a 1959 graduate of Northern Durham High School where she was in the National Honor Society, served as cheerleader, associated editor of the year book and was on the Homecoming Court. Later, Sue attended Durham Technical Community College.
She was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church, Durham, NC. Sue retired from the NC State Department of Transportation, Division of Highways.
She was an avid singer and enjoyed singing in various church and community choral groups. She served as a Deacon and the choir director at Three Rivers Baptist Church for a short period and a children's choir director at Braggtown Baptist Church.
A worship service celebrating the life of Sue Whitfield Ward will take place at Edgewood Baptist Church 1807 Infinity Road, Durham, NC 27712 on Saturday, August 2 at 11:00 am with the Rev. Tucker Reyner & Rev Johny Hewett. The family will receive friends at 10:00 am at the church. Burial will follow at the South Granville Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Edgewood Baptist Church Music Program, 1807 Infinity Road, Durham, NC 27712.

I have known Sue all of my life as well as Henry being my scoutmaster. She was always a beautiful and gracious woman who loved to sing in the church choir. I had not seen her in several years. May God bless Henry and the family in this time of grief.
