Suellen Shields Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 13, 2026.
Suellen Kay Shields, age 69, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, in Clovis, New Mexico, surrounded by her family.

Suellen was born on May 19, 1956, in Columbus, Indiana, and was raised by Joan and Johnny Joe Shields in Ellettsville, Indiana. She lived a life defined by love, dedication, and deep devotion to the people she cared for.

She graduated from Edgewood High School and went on to work at General Electric, where she dedicated 30 years of service before retiring. Suellen was proud of her work and known for her reliability, kindness, and steady presence.

Family was the center of Suellen's world. She was a loving mother to her sons, Jonah (Jessica) Truesdel and Glen (Lindsey) Truesdel, and a devoted grandmother to Jaden, Jordyn, and Jaime. She was especially proud of both of her sons' service in the military, a source of immense joy and pride throughout her life. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she treasured every moment spent with them.

Suellen is survived by her sister and best friend, Penny DeClaire, with whom she shared an unbreakable bond, her stepmother, Joan Shields, to whom she was very close, stepsister Joanne (Danny) Liese and stepbrother Loren (Tonya) Freeman. She is also lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews: Alisha, Michael, Caleb, Lily, and Kaitlyn, all of whom she cared for deeply.

She was preceded in death by her father, Johnny Joe Shields, her mother, Phyllis Freeman, her brother, William Shields, her nephew, Billy, and her half-sister, Jackie (Steve) Rogers.

Suellen found happiness in the simple things-being surrounded by family, working in her garden, enjoying flowers, and watching hummingbirds, which were her favorite. Her warmth, gentle spirit, and loving heart left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

Suellen will be deeply missed by many, but her love lives on in the hearts of her family and all who were blessed to know her.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor her memory and the love she shared with all who knew her.
