Susan Penelope "Penny" Bates, 79, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025 with friends and family by her side.
Penny was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on March 31, 1946, daughter of Barbara (Snedeker) and Frederick Bates and sister of Stephen Bates. She was a lifelong resident of Jenkintown residing in the home her grandfather built.
Penny graduated from Jenkintown High School in 1964 and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Rockford College (IL) in 1968.
Penny spent her career in the automotive industry. Her business, Olde World Restoration, restored and repaired antique foreign cars. Penny's passion was Morgan Sports Cars. She was a member of numerous Morgan Clubs, participating in car meets and rallies.
Penny's independent spirit and inquisitive mind led her to a love of the arts. She was an accomplished guitarist and ceramicist. Penny enjoyed being outdoors- gardening, birding, horseback riding, sailing, canoeing, and white-water kayaking. She also was well-versed in her family's history and genealogy.
The family would like to thank the dedicated nurses and aides from Amedisys Hospice for their excellent care of Penny.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Rose Bank Winery, 258 Durham Road, Newtown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to The Lustgarten Foundation or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in memory of Penny.

I had the privilege of meeting Penny when we were roommates at Luther Woods Rehab. She was an amazing woman that I was so proud to become friends with. Her amazing family and friends were always visiting her which showed me how much she was loved. I will miss our phone calls catching up with our day to day life. To Gail, her cousin, I know Penny really appreciated all of the help you gave to her. Rest in peace my friend. Helene

I am sincerely heartbroken over the passing of my dear friend, Penny! We have been in touch with each other for many years and we enjoyed having lunch together at least every month up to the time that she became ill. I will miss my little friend as she brought happiness into my heart each time that we met. God love you, Penny, for your goodness! Most sincerely, Joanne Ayer
