Susan Gail Benderman, 69, passed peacefully Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Maury Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family.

A Maury County native, Susan was born on January 4, 1955, the daughter of Joe Mack Benderman and Olivia “Libby” McClain Benderman in Columbia, Tennessee. She was a 1973 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. Susan earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Tennessee at Martin.

For many years she worked at Occidental Chemical Company and then as a counselor for Centerstone before retiring. Susan was a member of the Mount Pleasant First United Methodist Church. As an avid sports fan, she enjoyed the University of Tennessee, the Atlanta Braves, and the Tennessee Titans. Susan will be remembered for just how kind and generous she was, always thinking of others before herself.

Survivors include her brothers John (Brenda) Benderman, Randy Benderman, Mack Benderman, and Mark (Beth) Benderman; her niece Jill (Travis) Quillen; her uncle Kenny (Teresa) Benderman; several cousins; and lifelong friends Laura Bell, Joyce Dugger, Barbara Karch, Karen Kerr Meers, Sharon Brunson Rogers, and Ron Taylor.

Honorary pallbearers will be her former coworkers at Occidental and Centerstone, as well as the Mount Pleasant High School class of 1973. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Life Care Center of Columbia.

Memorials may be made to Mount Pleasant First United Methodist Church (202 South Main St., Mt. Pleasant, TN 38474) and to the Maury County Animal Shelter (1233 Mapleash Avenue, Columbia, TN 38401).

A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, February 3, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. The family will visit with friends on Saturday, February 3, 2024 from 12:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.
