Susan Bonnell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ziemer Funeral Home - East Chapel on Dec. 21, 2025.
Susan L. Bonnell, 80, of Newburgh, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, December 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 12, 1945, in Davenport, Iowa, to the late Gladys (Hagel) and Milton Black.
Susan graduated from Bosse High School in 1963 and earned her bachelor's degree in primary education from Indiana State University, where she was crowned Miss Indiana State. After graduation, she began her teaching career at Hebron Elementary School. Later, after raising her three boys, she ran St. Michael's Preschool for 14 years.
Susie was deeply devoted to her family, actively involved in her sons' school activities and sporting events. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish in Newburgh, where she taught CCD classes. Upon retirement, Susan and her husband, Ken, enjoyed traveling the world together. She was also a proud member of Rolling Hills Country Club and served as president of the Ladies 9-hole league. Winters were spent in Florida, where she and Ken enjoyed golf and a vibrant social life with friends and family.
Above all, Susie treasured her role as "Mimi" to her eight grandchildren, forming an unbreakable bond and never missing a sporting or school event. Her optimism, love, and unwavering support made her the family's biggest cheerleader.
Susie generously volunteered with Meals on Wheels and loved spending time with her friends playing bridge.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Bonnell; sons, Scott (Kim) Bonnell, Brad (Tiffany) Bonnell, and Jay (Jennifer) Bonnell; grandchildren, Evan, Ellsa, Este, Kelsey, Kyle, Bo, Blake, and Sophia Bonnell; and brother, James (Carol) Black. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 23, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Alex Zenthoefer officiating. Entombment will take place at St. John Mausoleum in Newburgh.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Parkinson's Foundation.

I was a member of the RHCC Ladies 9 hole league with Susie. I loved her and her beautiful smile. My prayers are with her family. She was a wonderful person.

I was so very sorry to learn of Susie's passing. She and I go back a long way as we were neighbors and attended Harper Grade School together and then Bosse High School. The Black family lived on St. James Blvd. and we lived on Ruston. I have so many wonderful memories of her and another neighbor, Jane Huffman Reynolds, who died in 2021. We loved horses and spent hours galloping around the neighbor pretending we were Indians living on the Great Plains. I knew she had Parkinson's Disease and wasn't doing well. I know all too well what her family has gone through as I lost my husband of 54 years to PD last year. My sincere condolenses to Ken, her boys and the entire family.
