Celebration of life for Susan Carmichael-Livingston

With deepest sorrow and reverence, we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Susan Carmichael Livingston, who transitioned from this earthly life on November 16, 2025, at 6:44 AM, after a sudden and courageous encounter with pancreatic cancer. Though her departure came swiftly, the brilliance of her spirit continues to shine bold, warm, and unforgettable.

Susan was a woman of extraordinary strength, timeless grace, and immeasurable love, but she was also undeniably sassy, witty, and full of personality. She had a way of lighting up any room she entered not just with her radiant presence, but with her sharp humor, quick comebacks, and the kind of laugh that made everyone else join in. Her smile was truly infectious, spreading joy wherever she went and leaving a lasting imprint on the hearts she touched.

Her journey in this world was rich with purpose. Susan dedicated many years to early childhood education, working with several nursery schools throughout the Trenton, Ewing, and Hamilton areas. Her tender heart, sharp intuition, and natural ability to connect with children shaped countless young lives.

Susan also pursued her passion for communication and creativity through her studies at Shaw University, Rutgers University, and Broadcasting School, where she earned multiple certificates and a degree in Radio/Broadcasting Production. With her magnetic personality and natural charisma, she flourished behind the microphone.

And before all of this, she was a local legend. Known throughout the Trenton area as the "Queen of Disco," Susan spent years as a DJ, captivating crowds with her music, energy, and signature presence. She brought life to every event she touched, and her love for music continued to be a defining part of her spirit.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 36 years, Clemmie Livingston, who stood faithfully by her side through every high and every low. She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Hensley Cansler (Jessica), Alisha Carmichael, Shawntae Carmichael-Livingston, and Melanie Carmichael-Livingston; as well as the children she embraced with love and open arms: Sheila Tooles (Wayne), Pastor Marsha Livingston, and Elder James Russell Livingston.

Susan also cherished her goddaughter, Zakida Killingsworth, who held a special place in her heart.

Her legacy continues through her sixteen treasured grandchildren Wayne, Diona, Kyasia, Zion, Zahmir, Tamire, Tamara, Louis Jr., Mylah, Markese, Jaylin, Nairobi, Khadir, Tavion Elijah, and Azja and her many great-grandchildren who will carry her vibrant spirit into generations yet to come.

She is also cherished in memory by her sisters Linda Carmichael and Veronica Carmichael-Aldajuste (Moise); her adored aunts Helen Ford, Annie Ruth Emanuel, Margarette Ross, and Bessie Emanuel; and a host of cousins, friends, and loved ones who were touched by her fire, her humor, her compassion, and her unforgettable presence.

She was welcomed into eternity by her parents, the late Hensley and Juanita Carmichael, both maternal and paternal grandparents and several beloved aunts and uncles who surely greeted her with joy and celebration.

Susan lived boldly, loved deeply, laughed loudly, and gave generously. Her sass made us smile, her wit kept us on our toes, and her heart held room for everyone. Her memory will forever remain a guiding light bright, comforting, and uniquely hers.

Though she is no longer with us in body, she lives on in the stories we tell, the laughter she inspired, the music she loved, and the love she poured into every life she touched. Her spirit dances on, full of color, courage, and joy.

Funeral service will be 11am Saturday, November 29, 2025 at Church of Christ, 411 North Clinton Avenue, Trenton, NJ 08638. Calling hour will be 10am until the time of service. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton, NJ.
