Susan Palsha Cooney, 70, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025 at her home in Sun City Center, FL surrounded by her family. Born in Ashley on April 2nd, 1955, Susan was the daughter of the late Carl and Genevieve (Czubek) Palsha.

A natural caregiver, Susan graduated from Luzerne County Community College School of Nursing and went on to help countless people working at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, General Hospital, Geisinger Medical Center and HighMark Blue Cross Blue Shield. Upon retiring, Susan and her husband Dennis of 46 years moved to FL from their Mountain Top home so she could enjoy the sunshine and salty ocean air. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church.

The simple pleasures in life brought Susan great joy. Every morning, she played Wordle, socialized with friends, and walked her dog Honey around the neighborhood. She loved dining out at new restaurants and going on vacation with her husband but her true passion was hosting holiday gatherings for family and friends (followed by a heated game of Scrabble). Spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, was her top priority throughout her life. Her legacy will carry on and serve as the compass that guides the family.

Susan is survived by her husband, Dennis; son, Matthew Cooney and his wife Tara, Dana Point, CA; daughter Jacquelyn Cooney Wrenn and husband Travis, Nashville, TN; grandchildren Cameron Clark Cooney and River Cooney Wrenn; brother David Palsha and wife Carol, Sacramento, CA; sister and best friend Diane Palsha Orloski and husband Robert, Mountain Top; numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends and family will be received Friday, December 5th from 10am-11am at Saint Jude Parish, 420 South Mountain Blvd, Mountain Top, PA followed by a Memorial Mass at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Brighter Journeys, 150 Mundy Street Wilkes Barre, PA 18702.

Funeral arrangements are by the George A. Strish, Inc. Funeral Home, 105 North Main St., Ashley, PA.

Yesterday

My husband, Norm, and I met Susan (I know her as Sue), and Dennis shortly after we moved to Fl. They were new here too. We all met at a neighbor's party. Sue was engaging and friendly. We soon became good friends and found our lives were similar in so many ways. We both moved from out of state, our ages were close, we both had grown children out of state and in Calif. We loved to talk or text. We shared anything new that came up and talked a lot about our families. We had a lot of laughs and got together when we could-but never enough. We were working on our new homes, then the Covid shutdown occurred, then my husband became very ill, and all of us having our share of doctor checkups. Time was short, but we had plans, some real good ones. It hurts now that they will go unfinished. I feel like I've not only lost a dear friend, but her children too.
You made my life better, Sue. Thanks for being my friend. Don't forget I'll be looking for you.
Our condolences to you, and all the family, Dennis
