Susan Dixon, a woman of boundless creativity, unwavering love for her family, and a flair for the fabulous, peacefully departed on August 15, 2024, at the age of 75. She was born in San Diego, California, on April 30th - a date that coincides with Denmark's Queen's Day, a royal holiday Susan often proclaimed to her children as her own. It was only fitting that she enter the world on such a regal day, given her lifelong love of all things sparkly, shiny and beautiful along with her enjoyment of all things pampering.
Susan was a proud blend of Danish and German heritage, a unique combination that made her strong-willed, determined, vocal in her opinion, and as resilient as a Viking. Dedicated to her family, she did it all, organizing and managing everything (and everyone) within her kingdom. A devout Lutheran, Susan took great pride in raising her five children within the faith as well as instilling within them her strong work ethic. She rarely missed an opportunity to recite "The Little Red Hen" when she felt a little motivation was necessary.
Susan was a devoted and doting grandmother who took immense pride in her thirteen grandchildren, each of whom adored her dearly. She never missed an occasion, milestone, or opportunity to be with them, always cheering them on and offering her unwavering support. Her grandchildren are blessed with countless fond memories of her loving presence in their lives.
Susan enjoyed many activities and hobbies. Her gardens were a masterpiece, a vibrant testament to her creative spirit, love and knowledge of all things flora. She enjoyed sewing, painting, cooking, making jam, and at one time went on a quiche kick that may or may not have lasted too long according to her children. Susan's love for holidays was evident in her exuberant decorations, which could easily rival Macy's festive displays. She also had a passion for travel and embraced a snowbird lifestyle in her later years, spending winters in her cherished home in Mount Dora, FL.
Susan leaves with us a legacy of love, creativity, meaningful memories and traditions, many wonderful giggles, and a family that will forever be shaped by her dedication to them. Rest easy Queen - We Love You.
Susan was preceded in death by her son, John Dixon in 2020. She is lovingly remembered by her long-time partner, Joe Urciuoli, her former husband, James Dixon, and four of her children and their spouses: James and Kimberly Dixon, Erin Dixon, David and Maureen Dixon, Rebecca and Daniel Caple, and Deborah and Robert Hoffman. She also leaves behind thirteen cherished grandchildren: Megan, James, and Madison Dixon; Andrew, Grace, and Mathew Dixon; David and Hannah Dixon; Sophie, Adam, Daniel, and Miles Caple; and Guy Hoffman.
Susan's family warmly invites you to honor her memory in a way that truly reflects her spirit. Attend a service at House of Prayer Lutheran Church, reminisce on your cherished memories of her while tending to your garden, plan a new adventure, wear something that makes you feel fabulous, and raise a glass in her honor--whether it's a Bloody Mary with hot sauce and extra celery or a Stella D'Oro cookie with a cup of tea.
