Susan FREEMAN Obituary

Meridian - Sue Freeman 84, was born on June 24, 1938, in Conrad, Montana, the third child of seven kids. At the age of six, her family moved to Spokane, Washington, where she grew up in a loving home that is now part of the campus of Gonzaga University. Sue had great memories growing up in a home filled with love and a neighborhood filled with friends and neighbors who cared for and looked after each other. Sue attended St. Aloysius grade school and Holy Names Academy, graduating in 1956. In 1957, she drove her 1949 Ford Sedan into the Utoco Service Station at the corner of Sharp and Hamilton in Spokane and asked the handsome gas station attendant and the future love of her life, Franklin George "Buzz" Freeman, for a couple of dollars worth of gas. After several additional encounters, he got the courage to ask her out on their first date and the rest is history. They were married in 1959 (64 years). Sue and Buzz started their family, raising four kids, Rob, Terri, Ron, and Mark. Their faith and love for the Lord were foundational in their lives and in how they raised their kids. Sue loved being a mom and her kids were the recipients of that outpouring of love. When Sue wasn't busy raising kids, she enjoyed gardening, camping, and huckleberry picking with the family, and if given a gun, she could shoot a bull's eye with little trouble. She loved trying new recipes and had many cookbooks. Sue's heart for others extended beyond her home, as she actively looked for opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others. She would be helping several elderly widows who needed a meal and regular visits, or organizing over 600 women in 1966 to convince large grocery store chains in the Spokane area to lower their prices to help those less advantaged. Sue worked for many years at Mead Junior High with at-risk students. Her focus was addressing the needs of these students and helping them achieve their potential, and her hugs were freely given. For the last few years of Sue's life, she became increasingly homebound. That did not stop her from watching Sunday services of Central Valley Baptist Church, as well as Gaither Family Home Coming videos throughout the week. Her favorite singer of all time is David Phelps. Sue was born with a servant's heart and that continued up to the day of her passing. Sue leaves behind her husband, Buzz Freeman; her children, Rob (Danelle) Freeman, Terri (Bruce) Lacy, Ron (Ellen) Freeman, and Mark (Christine) Freeman; along with her eight grandkids, Katie Caldwell, Tyler, Nikayla and Brandon Lacy, Kelsey, and Nick Freeman, and Sarah and Marie Freeman. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Paul Taylor; and sisters, Jackie Neumann Stone, Connie Koentopp, and Cathy Taylor. A celebration of Sue's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Central Valley Baptist Church located at 600 N. Ten Mile Road, Meridian, ID 83642. At the request of the family, casual attire is preferred. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central Valley Baptist Church to help furnish the new Youth Building. For those who are unable to attend, the service may be viewed at any time at the following link: https://youtube.com/live/CKyGOzL9YTE?feature=share.

Dear Buzz, Rob, Terri, Ron, Mark, and Families,
I first met Sue when she was the room mother for my fourth grade class, which included Rob, in 1971-72. She was a delightful, dedicated mom and came to our classroom frequently. Our friendship and professional relationship grew from there until she retired and moved to Boise in the late1990's. I hired her as my classroom aide in the Title I Learning Center in 1974, and she remained with us in that program until its demise. She was a patient, kind, and dedicated tutor to scores of students who went through our program. Not only did I admire and appreciate her invaluable assistance, I also was in awe of her ability to correct pages and pages of student work and record the results accurately day after day. The boredom factor was huge, but Sue persevered, much to the benefit of our program and all of the students involved.
You are on my mind and in my heart as you grieve her loss. My hope is that fond memories will sustain you as you adjust to life without her.
Sincerely,
Paddy Inman
