On November 16, 2025 Susan Mary Gerard was called to eternal life. She passed from this life far too soon, held in the profound love of the people she so deeply cherished. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She touched countless lives with her gentle warmth, her contagious laughter, and her generous spirit.
Sue was born on March 27, 1952. She grew up in Brookfield, Wisconsin, the daughter of Don and Pat Roettgers. Sue was the oldest of four children. She attended St. Dominic grade school and Divine Savior high school. Later, she attended Marquette University Nursing School where she earned her Bachelors Degree. She became a Registered Nurse and began working at St. Joseph's Hospital in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Her dedication to caring for newborns ultimately lead her to a career in helping families as a Child Birth Instructor.
Sue also raised her own family in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin with her husband, Joe. She loved being in a community where neighbors became friends. She welcomed two daughters, Katie and Annie. When they were of school age, they attended
Christ King Grade School where Sue became involved in many parish activities, not only deepening her faith, but also building life long friendships with those around her.
Later in life, Sue welcomed two son-in-laws Dan Ludwig (Annie) and Michael Ekker (Katie). She was blessed with four grandchildren of her own Drew, Ben, Emma, and Owen. She effortlessly took on the role of Nana, lovingly guiding her family in faith, values, and traditions. Earlier this year, she celebrated her 50th Wedding Anniversary with Joe.
Sue's life was a gift and the love she gave continues to live on in every person fortunate enough to have been held in the warmth of her spirit. May she rest in peace embraced by the God she loved so deeply and forever held in the hearts of all who loved her.
Visitation Monday, November 24 at St. Dominic Catholic Church from 11:00 AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Heart of the Nation https://www.heartofthenation.org/donate/ways-to-give or Children's Hospital of WI https://give.childrenswi.org/page/74402/donate/1 are appreciated.
