Susan Getchell

Susan M. Getchell, 62 years old of New Berlin, NY, passed away at her Silver Lake home on December 16, 2023.
Susan was born on May 13, 1961, in Albany, NY, the daughter of Darwin & Gloria (Coy) Laymon. Her childhood was spent in Edmeston, NY where she attended Edmeston and Mt. Markham Central Schools. She worked as a private home health care aide and enjoyed BBQ's and getting together with family, classic car shows and riding 4-wheelers.
On September 29, 1985, she married Shawn Getchell who survives her.
In addition to her husband Shawn, Susan is survived by her children, Lisa (Mike) McGarrity of West Edmeston, NY, Lee (Jessica) Wakefield, Barneveld, NY, Steven (April) Getchell of Richfield Springs, NY, and Lynn (Cory) Merkle of Waterville, NY. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Michael and Nicholas Guller, Conner, Clayton, Caylee, Mason and Madilyn Wakefield, Emily and Skylar Getchell, Autumn Burmaster and Riser Merkle, siblings; Terry Steele, Chris Donahue, Steve Laymon and Pam Harbert, as well as many close family members including her niece Kayla (Jim) Akins and their children and several other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her brothers, DJ, and Richard Laymon.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the Dakin Funeral Home LP, New Berlin, NY with Pastor Rob Lloyd officiating. Calling hours will be from 9:00-11:00 AM prior to the funeral service.
A celebration of life will be held after the funeral at the getchell home 118 Prospect Place, Silver Lake.
