Susan Elizabeth Gogol

HERKIMER - Susan Elizabeth Gogol (Zawalski), 73, of Manlius, NY, passed away, on Thursday, January 25, 2024, with her husband Carl by her side, at the PAM Health Specialty Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, PA, after battling several complications from heart surgery in November 2023.
Born on June 13, 1950, in Herkimer, NY, she graduated from Herkimer High School in 1968 and received her B.S. Magna Cum Laude, in Elementary Education from Syracuse University in 1972. She went on to receive her Master's Degree from the SUNY School of Technology, in 1977.
Susan was married to Carl Gogol, on November 17, 1973 and they lived in Manlius, NY for the majority of their 50 years together.
Susan loved teaching kindergarten and especially loved reading to her students. There was nothing that made Susan happier than teaching young children how to read. She taught in the Ilion and Canastota School Districts for 33 years before retiring to enjoy life on the farm with her husband and time with her children, grandchildren and friends.
She was known for the love and kindness she showed to everyone she came in contact with. Often, Susan could be found taking long walks, something she enjoyed tremendously. When she wasn't walking the roads and trails around her home, she found comfort in spending her time meticulously maintaining her home, both inside and out.
She is survived by her husband, Carl; her brother, Robert (Kelly) Zawalski, of Texas; her children, Benjamin (Angela) Gogol, of Virginia and Jennifer Wilson, of Ohio; her grandchildren, Dillon, Elaina, Gavin and Logan Gogol; and her niece, Mary Jo Zawalski.
She was predeceased by her parents, Chester and Eleanor Zawalski (Marcinkiewicz).
In keeping with Susan's wishes, private services will be held prior to interment, in Herkimer's Calvary Cemetery, in the spring.
