Private family services for Karen M. Sandt, age 67, of Minneapolis, MN, formerly of Fairmont, MN, were held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont with interment in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Karen passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the Hennepin County Medical Center. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Karen Marie Sandt was born on November 5, 1957, to Lloyd and Alice (Shumski) Sandt. She grew up on a farm helping her dad raise hogs with her sisters and helping her mom raise ducks and geese. Karen attended Fairmont area schools and graduated from Fairmont High School with honors. She went on to pursue a secretarial degree from Mankato Area Vocational Technical Institute.
After graduating, Karen moved to Minneapolis to pursue a career working for the State of Minnesota in Human Resources and also working in the Highway Department. Karen also worked at the Rudy Perpich Center for Arts and Education.
Karen enjoyed gardening and working outside on various projects in her yard. She also enjoyed playing her guitar and writing poetry. Karen loved to take vacations to Colorado for hiking and just being out in nature. More than anything, she loved her various fur-babies, her dogs. She walked with them to a nearby park close to where she lived.
Karen is survived by her mother, Alice Sandt of Fairmont, MN; sisters, Susan (Gary) Stusse of rural Fairmont, Rosemary Sandt of rural Truman, MN, and Betty Sandt of Anoka, MN; brother, Jerome Sandt of rural Fairmont, MN; aunt, Marie Shumski of Fairmont, MN; nephew, Matthew (Mel) Stusse of Trimont, MN; and other relatives and friends. Along with her father, Lloyd Sandt, Karen was preceded in death by her aunt and uncle, Lillian and Jim Pfannes; and uncle, Leo Shumski.
