It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Susan Pearce Hite, who left this world to be with her Lord on December 30, 2025, at the age of 81 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Sue was born to Elisha Levi and Audrey Blanton Pearce in Lanette, Alabama on November 10, 1944. Sue was the youngest daughter and 5th of 6 children. Sue lived a remarkable and full life, touching the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Sue's sharp humor, compassion, and steadfast commitment to her loved ones will always be cherished. Throughout her life, she was a pillar of strength, a source of inspiration, and a guiding light to those around her. Whether offering a listening ear or sharing her wisdom, Sue made a lasting impact on her community and beyond.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Kathryn Hewett and brother Ernie Pearce and her husband of 43 years, Fred Hite. She is survived by her sister Jean Elton and brother Al Pearce as well as her two sons, Tom Hite and wife Debbie of Oklahoma City, OK, and Joe Hite and wife Lisa of Moore, OK. as well as eight grandchildren Sarah, Aislynn, Alex, Sullivan, Tanner, Sophia, Timothy, Olivia and great granddaughter, Addison to whom she was known as Mama Sue.
In addition to her family, Sue leaves behind her cherished best friend, Julie Vest, who stood by her side through life’s many adventures. Sue loved Julie, her husband Jim and their children Aubrey and Austin as a special part of her family; and Deirdre Hite with whom Sue shared a history, a family, and many hours of conversation up to her final days.
In addition to her family and friends, Sue’s legacy of love and compassion was evident in the many dogs she cared for and cherished over the years.
Sue’s absence will be felt, but her impact endures.
Sue built an impressive career as a newspaper reporter and editor, working for many years across Tennessee, Alabama, and Oklahoma. Her dedication to journalism not only informed and inspired her readers but also set a standard of excellence for her colleagues. Through her work, Susan contributed significantly to the communities she served, leaving a legacy of integrity, curiosity, and commitment to the truth. She was published in Country Living Magazine and a collection of her featured articles were published in a book titled, "If I do say so Myself".
Susan was a devoted member of The United Methodist Church for many years. Her faith was a guiding force in her life, and she found great joy in serving her local Methodist congregation. Throughout her life, she dedicated countless hours to church activities, outreach, and fellowship, enriching the lives of those around her and embodying the spirit of compassion and service.
A memorial service will be held at Village United Methodist Church on January 7th at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests, that donations be made to The Dementia Society of America or The Autism Society of America.
Susan’s life was a testament to the power of love, compassion, and resilience. May she rest in peace, and may her memory be a blessing to all.
