Obituary of Dr. Susan K. Hutchison

Dr. Susan Hutchison, who served the Lord at DCCS (Delaware County Christian School) DC, for 40 years, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 21, 2025. Sue began work at DC in 1975 to teach second grade and help coach field hockey. Several years later she became the Director of the Discovery Center, what is now call Student Support Services. During her time at DC, Sue was a key instructional leader for the National Institute of Learning Differences, completed a doctoral degree in curriculum at the University of Pennsylvania, and was honored as the Alumna of the Year at Taylor University.

Sue graduated from Taylor University 1973 (B.S. in Education), Performed missionary work in Guatemala for 2 years, continued education at Glassboro State College 1981 (M.Ed. in Learning Disabilities), and the University of Pennsylvania (1999) with a major in Curriculum, Ed.D. She was awarded Taylor's Distinguished Alumna Award for Professional Achievement in 2002.

Sue's first classroom was 0205 in the mansion, with 25 second grade students. In 1981, she was appointed Director of the Discovery Center. Sue continued in that position until retirement in 2015. Sue also served as the chair of the Curriculum Council, the Education Committee and the Professional Development Team. Sue coached JV field hockey from 1975 - 1991, with a short Varsity stint replacing an injured coach in 2012. Sue also coached Girls' Lacrosse for one year and Girls' Track and Field for several years, kept clock and book for basketball. She also went with Mr. B. on every 5th Grade camping trip through 2009.

During and after College at Taylor University, Sue was a member of "Wandering Wheels" a Christian group who share their faith and cycled thousands of miles across the United States of America. In a group of 50, Sue traveled from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and many other shorter distance tours. After publishing her Doctoral thesis in 1999, Sue later Co-authored a math textbook for NILD. She has been an adjunct at Lancaster Bible College, Columbia Bible College and Seminary, and Philadelphia Biblical University. Sue also taught and consulted for NILD in Canada, Germany, Italy, South Africa, Mexico, Venezuela, Guatemala, and Dominican Republic. ln addition, Sue has been a guest lecturer at the Universidad Nacional Evangelica (Dominican Republic), and Sichuan College of Education, (Chengdu, People's Republic of China).

Sue worked with many students over her tenure and was proud to see many of them graduate college and move onto successful careers. It was Dr. Sue's delight to be teaching second generation children at DC. As noted from a former student, "She was the model and living example that truly represents the genuine relationship of a teacher, colleague, and friend."

Visitation: Tuesday, December 2nd, after 10:00AM at the Minshall Shropshire-Bleyler Funeral Home, Middletown (Rte. #352) & Knowlton Rds., Middletown Twp., Media, PA 19063.

Funeral Service: Tuesday, December 2nd at 11:00AM at the funeral home.

Interment: Edgewood Memorial Park, Glen Mills, PA.
