Susan "Sue" Konken, 68, of Chancellor, passed away February 4, 2026.
Susan “Sue” Konken was born October 18, 1957, in Parkston, South Dakota, to Donald and Joann (Weiss) Kost. Her father, Donald, died in a drowning accident when she was young. Her mother later married Roy Weisz, who helped raise her.
Sue graduated from Parkston High School and then attended Mitchell Tech for secretary skills. She started her working career with Western Surety Insurance and moved on to Littons. She worked for Metz McKenna Credit Union where she experienced an armed robbery. She then went on to Citi Bank. She worked for a temp agency doing many different tasks. She was hired by Walmart and was working part-time until her death.
Sue met Greg Konken, and the two were married on September 1, 1988. Later, they purchased an acreage near Chancellor, South Dakota. There, Sue spent much of her time on her long-term passion for flowers. She enjoyed greenhouses and never passed one without stopping to buy plants. Summers were spent tending her flower beds, caring for the many varieties of lilies she and Greg traveled to collect, and constantly battling weeds while lovingly worrying over the plants she cherished.
Sue was known for her attention to detail and thoughtfulness. She kept careful track of birthdays and anniversaries, writing them down so she would never forget to acknowledge them. She was a strong-willed but deeply supportive wife and mother, known for her steady and dependable presence.
Sue and Greg traveled throughout the Midwest attending antique tractor shows, where Sue supported Greg’s interest in orange tractors and enjoyed the time away together.
Sue is survived by her husband, Greg Konken of rural Chancellor; her parents, Roy and Joann Weisz of Parkston; her son, Adam (Krista); her grandson, Malakai; and a grandson expected soon Oliver of Harrisburg. She is also survived by her siblings James (Pat) Kost of Mitchell, Russel (Shreena) Kost of Sioux Falls, Lisa Tiesler of Tea, Greg (Nicole) Weisz of rural Parkston, and brother-in-law Galen Konken of Sterling, CO, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Kost, her grandparents, brother and sister-in-law Gail (Linda) Konken, sister-in-law Marsha Konken, parents-in-law Louis “Billy” (Loretta) Hahn, and father-in-law Marvin Konken.
A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM, Saturday, February 14, 2026 at Heritage Funeral Home with a Visitation at 10 AM.
