Susan Ann Mauffray, lovingly known as Susie, was born on December 28, 1957. She passed away peacefully at her house surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the age of 67 in Long Beach, Mississippi.
Born with a vibrant spirit and a loving heart, Susan married her high school sweetheart, Anthony “Tony” Mauffray. Together they shared a lifetime of love and would have celebrated 48 years of marriage this year. She was a devoted mother to her children, the late Robby Mauffray, the late Christopher Mauffray, and Melissa (Paul) Cumbaa, and a proud grandmother to Anthony (AJ), Mason, and Olivia Cumbaa. She is also survived by her sisters Laura (Eugeen) Mudreac, Cindy Henderson, and Judy Vesely, and preceded in death by her brother, Robert (Bobby) Sanders, father, Jesse Sanders, Mother Carol Sanders.
Susan was a woman of many talents and passions. From her parents’ ceramic shop, The Mudd Puddle in Pass Christian, Susan discovered her love for crafts, quilting, sewing, and giving old treasures new life.
She carried her creativity into every part of her life. Her career was marked by compassion and service—first as a nurse’s aide in nursing homes and at Memorial Hospital, later as an insurance receptionist for the hospital, and finally, after retirement, as a beloved bus aide for the Harrison County School District.
Her greatest joys came from the simple and beautiful things in life: raising her beloved Pomeranians, watching the birds outside her porch, and tending to her plants.
Susan’s deep faith guided her throughout her life—baptized at Riverside Baptist Church of Long Beach, she later became a cherished member of Divine Grace Baptist Church.
To know Susan was to be touched by her warmth, wit, and unforgettable presence. Charismatic and spunky, she could make anyone laugh and always gave her love wholeheartedly. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family, friends, and all who had the joy of knowing her.
Services will be held at Devine Grace Baptist Church in Long Beach, MS on Friday, September 12, 2025, with a visitation from 10AM - 12PM and Funeral Services at 12PM followed by interment at Allen Cemetery.
