Susan McCain Obituary

Published by Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Inc. - Cridersville on Nov. 23, 2016.
Local health and wellness educator/yoginni Susan McCain went home November 23rd at St. Rita's Hospital Hospice Unit after an extended illness. Mrs. McCain was born in Lima, Ohio on September 21, 1950, the daughter of Herman and Elayne Wheelbarger. She graduated from Shawnee High School in 1968 and then lived for several years in Florida and Denver. After returning to Ohio she earned an Associate Degree in Fitness from Hocking College, a BA in Recreation Management from Bluffton College and an MA in Integrative Yoga Therapy from Antioch University. She was also a Certified Ayurvedic practitioner and a Reiki Master. Although she made it look easy, when she worked with her students and clients, her intimate knowledge of anatomy and physiology, nutrition, exercise physiology, the effect of emotions on the body, personal genetics and the individual's history and current condition went into her teaching and counseling. Mrs. McCain worked at the Lima YWCA and was Activities Director at the Lima Senior Center. She taught at Bluffton College, the University of Northwestern Ohio and Lima Memorial Hospital as well as teaching variety of special health and wellness classes throughout the Lima area. A life-long avid collector of antiques and vintage items for pleasure. She made many friends at the Auglaize Antique Mall and Casa Chic in Wapakoneta, Ohio. She was also a creative craftsperson having blessed many people with her handmade greeting cards and extraordinary scrapbooks. After becoming reacquainted at their 25th high school reunion, in 1993 John and Susan were married by Pastor Gary Hines at the Calvary Temple Assembly of God. She is survived by her beloved husband of 23 years John McCain, niece Traci Oaks, grand niece Rachael Oaks, grand nephew Ryan Oaks, sister-in-law Kathy McCain, sister-in-law Jayne McCain, brother-in-law Dana (Chris) McCain, sister Lynda Triplett and many, many friends & clients. Susan lived what she believed. She planted seeds of warmth, faith and compassion in many lives. Her kind-hearted smile, preparation for and engagement in teaching, endless devotion to the health and wellness of her clients, tireless work ethic, dependably faithful commitment to relationships with friends both old and new, and her uniquely contagious sense of humor will be fondly remembered and immeasurably missed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Hospice unit at St. Rita's Hospital in Lima.

My dearest friend for 52 years. All the times together and the wonderful long letters we wrote each other when we lived far apart. I'll miss your honesty, integrity and your wonderful ability to help me see the humor in any and every situation, laughing until our faces hurt, and you'd keep going. You've been my confessor, my counselor and in the most meaningful sense of the word - my friend. So glad to know we'll meet again and that you can now know pure, unfettered joy.

Dear John, Kathy and family, As I recall the years you and Susan have been our neighbors, one of the things that has impressed me the most is your love of natural things. Living in harmony with our world was so important to Susan and continues to be with you, John. John, I can't imagine the pain of loss in your heart today. Losing a best friend, lover, and life partner is difficult to put into words. No one understands your loss but God. May He give comfort and peace in this most difficult time. May the love of friends and family carry you through these challenging days. Just want to say, I am here for you. Bring your coffee and come share with us anytime.

I met Susan when she and I both worked at the YWCA. I enjoyed our chats when we crossed paths in the hallways. A most pleasant person always. You will be missed dear lady. RIP

No matter what we were doing, we always had fun. I first met Susan when we were both at the YWCA and our friendship has grown since then. She was a very special lady and I am so saddened by her passing. WE can all find comfort by knowing she is no longer in pain. She will be missed by many.

I was one of Susan's yoga students several years ago, and I was very, very sorry to hear about her illness. My mother told me earlier this evening that she passed away, and it's difficult for me to wrap my head around somehow, though it shouldn't be surprising to me, I know. She was always patient and never pushed her students too hard, always emphasized relaxation and groundedness over achieving difficult poses for their own sake - she was how a teacher ought to be. She was a wonderful and kind teacher, and I'll miss her.

As Angels sang that day every sweet refrain of Amazing Grace, Heaven opened the gate and the children came when they saw her face. As happy as they were to see her coming, we will be just as sad to have to watch her go, but knowing what we know about heaven, believing that she's all the way home, knowing that she's in heaven is all we ever need to let her go. We could hope we could pray her back, but why would we do that when she's where life and love never ends, knowing what we know about heaven.... Every voice made a joyful sound, how sweet the sound as the saints rejoiced, but for every broken heart remember new life begins on streets of gold. For every tear that falls from our eyes we know the sun is shining now where she is...knowing what we know about heaven... You will be greatly missed, Susan. Thank you for all you have given. It is only temporary...

Susan, although I've known you only a few years, it breaks my heart of your passing. Your sense of humor, your kindness, will never be forgotten. You're at peace now, no more suffering. God Bless you...an bless your loved ones you left behind

A kind and gentle person we have lost. Susan's smile and laughter could fill a room, now it fills the heavens. I know when I now look at nature your beautiful spirit is part of that. I will miss you my friend, until we meet again.

I met SUSAN at a yoga class at UNOH. She was filling in for another teacher and we just clicked. She is the person who helped me find my yoga school to go to and get my yoga teacher certificate. She was to me a mentor and great friend. I truly believe she is one of the main reasons I have my love and passion for yoga. She inspired me to become a teacher without her I'm not sure I would have my business. She was one of those people that not only guided and taught you but would listen and take advice. When you find someone in your life who puts you on the path you should be on it is the greatest gift to ever receive. That was SUSAN for me. She will be forever remembered and I will still tell my students about the great woman who helped me be who I am today. Thank you SUSAN you will be forever missed.

I cried last evening when I read the sad news of Susan's passing yesterday. A good childhood friend of mine passed away from cancer in March. Susan sent me a message of condolence saying my friend was too young. She was two years older than Susan. Susan was also too young, but both of them were angels of God while here on Earth. I am missing them both. But I know God said they accomplished what He requested of them. Susan is loved and will always remain in our hearts. We miss you!

I have known Susan for several years. She was a very special person and she made a difference in the world. She will be missed. I am saddened beyond words with her passing. She was a remarkable woman who helped so many and was always positive and inspiring. The only good right now is that she is free from pain and is at peace. My sympathy is extended to all who knew and loved her.
