SUSAN MCGRATH Obituary

McGRATH, Susan Beth (nee Hilton) Age 84, passed away on March 12, 2026, in Newton. Born in Utah and raised in Michigan, Susan earned a B.Ed. from U of M and a MS in Chemistry from Syracuse. A devoted Catholic, Susan married Joseph McGrath, in Ann Arbor in 1967, where they raised three children and Susan taught high school Chemistry. In retirement in Massachusetts, Susan developed a gift for painting and a love of all Boston sports. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Helen (née Higgenbotham) and Leo Hilton; and by her siblings, Gregory Hilton (Suzette) and Cynthia Hildenbrand. She is survived by her husband, Joe; her daughter, Dr. Claire McGrath (Gary Phillips) and children, Jackson and Samuel; her daughter, Dr. Meghan McGrath (Dr. R. Christopher Sheldrick) and children, Caleb and Peter; and her daughter, Hon. Tara McGrath (Col. Douglas Hatch, USMC Ret.) and children, Liam, Helen and Millie Claire. Funeral Mass will be held at 10am, on March 18, at St. Ignatius Church, 28 Commonwealth Ave., Chestnut Hill. Visitation will start in the church at 9:30am Lehman Reen McNamara Brighton 617 782 1000
