Susan passed away peacefully on Friday, October 4, 2024 at the St. Francis Home in Saginaw at the age of 79. She was born to the late Ollie and Dorothy (Whitbrodt) Majeske on April 28, 1945 in Bay City, Michigan. She was a registered nurse and worked in home health care for several years before working for MyMichigan Medical Center in Midland as a surgical nurse for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and spoiling them every chance she got. Susan loved animals, especially her cat, Sophie, and use to rescue wildlife animals in her spare time. She liked to cook, go shopping and playing cards like euchre and poker, it always had to be for money (LOL). She loved hosting and going to family gatherings.
Susan is survived by her children, Gretchen (Rick) Ricklefs and Scott (Tina) Scherzer; grandchildren, Jason Ricklefs, Megan Ricklefs, Jacob Ricklefs, Christmas Ricklefs, Mike Ricklefs, Dustin Miracle, Trisha Sylvester and Allison Scherzer; several great grandchildren; close cousins, Paulette, Nan, Deb, Linda and several other cousins, nieces and nephews; special childhood friends, Penny, Barb and Mary; brother-in-law’s, Roger (Jennifer) Scherzer and Gary (Jill) Scherzer and sister-in-law’s, Dee Scherzer and Connie Majeske. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Scherzer Jr.; grandson, Jeff Sylvester; granddaughter, Emily Ricklefs; father and mother-in-law, Walter Sr. and Gertrude Scherzer; brother, Gary Majeske; brother-in-law’s, Donald Scherzer and Bill Scherzer, and several aunts and uncles.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff at Gentiva Hospice for all their care and compassion they have shown them throughout this difficult time. They would also like to say thank you to the staff at the St. Francis Home in Saginaw for the amazing care their mother received over the last two years, especially Sister Margo, Fr. LeFlur, Nurse Becky, Nurse Lisa, Nurse Chris, CNA Charday and many other staff members.
In honoring the wishes of Susan, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at the Gephart Funeral Home. The family will be present to receive visitors on Sunday at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A private inurnment will take place at a later date at Floral Gardens Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Gentiva Hospice or Wild Heart Wildlife Rescue.
