Susan Pinchot Obituary

Susan Pinchot
Susan Pinchot, a longtime Stamford resident, died Saturday, June 29, 2024.
Born October 3, 1937, in New York, she was the daughter and only child of writer, Ann Pinchot, and noted photographer of Broadway theater stars, Ben Pinchot. In 1938 the family moved from the City to Maltbie Avenue in Stamford. She attended King Low Heywood school, received a degree in Journalism from NYU in 1960, and several years later she attended NYU graduate school for American history and government.
Sue was community minded and began volunteering at Stamford Hospital when she was just 13. In a 1974 Stamford Advocate article she was described as "…one of the most widely known women in Stamford because she belongs to that indefatigable group of community-minded persons who volunteer for so many causes that they spend at least three nights a week attending some large meeting or other." Sue would later be employed as the Secretary of the Stamford Medical Society and Public Relations Director for St. Joseph's Hospital. Throughout her life she sat on many boards and committees including the Ferguson Library.
Sue enjoyed traveling, reading, writing, knitting, and giving advice. She was the true historian of Maltbie Avenue, where she lived most of her life and had extensive knowledge of many topics, which she loved to share.
Sue was a great friend and neighbor and an avid animal lover. She cared about those less fortunate, people and animals, and never hesitated to drop whatever she was doing to help. She was named the "Angel" on her block and everywhere Sue went someone knew her.
She will be missed by many. Stamford lost a true piece of history.
A memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 28, at Long Ridge Union Cemetery, 156 Erskine Rd., Stamford, CT 06903.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Friends of Felines in Stamford.
