Forever Loved: Susan Murray Potter
The family of Susan Murray Potter lovingly remembers her after her passing on October 21, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 65. Born on August 21, 1960, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Susan was the beloved daughter of Walt and Anne Murray of Galveston, Texas.
Susan is survived by her devoted husband, Mike Potter; her daughters, Katie Mihalco (and her husband Nick) of Magnolia, Texas, and their children, Wyatt and Kendall; Christy Baldauf (and her husband Ryan) of Cypress, Texas, and their children, Clara and Ryleigh; and Kimberly Dorgan (and her husband Kris) of Norman, Oklahoma, and their son, Jameson. She is also survived by her parents, Walt and Anne Murray, and her three sisters and brother, along with their spouses, children, and grandchildren — a big, loving family that brought her so much joy and just the right amount of chaos.
Susan and Mike’s love story began at the University of Texas at Austin, where they met, fell in love, and started their lifelong journey together. Married for 43 years, they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, adventure, and deep devotion. They raised three daughters who were the center of their world. Susan even got Mike hooked on pickleball — one of many hobbies they enjoyed side by side. Together, they loved traveling, going to plays, and hosting dinner parties with their close friends. They were truly best friends and soulmates who loved each other deeply and lived each day with gratitude for the life they shared.
To her family and friends, Susan was the steady heartbeat of every gathering — the one who made sure everyone was cared for, comfortable, and laughing. She had a warm and selfless spirit and preferred to help others behind the scenes rather than seek the spotlight. She loved deeply and gave freely, always ready with a meal, a cocktail, or a kind word when someone needed it most.
Known affectionately as “Sushi” to her grandkids, nieces, and nephews, Susan was a superhero in their eyes — their biggest cheerleader, comfort, and playmate. When she babysat, “Camp Sushi” was always in full swing with Legos, games, coloring, and playground adventures. Those happy, noisy, love-filled days will forever be treasured by her grandchildren.
Susan lived a life rich with friendship, purpose, and generosity. Through every hobby and passion — tennis, pickleball, gardening, book club, Pilates, and cooking — she formed cherished circles of friends in both Oklahoma and Katy, Texas. She also gave deeply of her time and heart, volunteering at Saint Lawrence Ministry, teaching children to garden at Positive Tomorrows School, and tending to the gardens at the local women’s shelter. She loved spending time in Galveston with her parents and cheering on her beloved University of Texas Longhorns — especially during the Red River Rivalry game, which she and Mike never missed watching together. Hook ’Em Horns! After Mike retired, they enjoyed exploring new places together, most recently visiting Portugal, Spain, and Canada.
Susan also loved butterflies and created beautiful butterfly sanctuaries in her yard. They were her symbol of peace and joy. Whenever you see a butterfly, may it remind you of Susan — her kindness, warmth, and the beauty she brought into the world.
Susan was the kind of person who made every place feel like home — warm, welcoming, and filled with love. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, humor, compassion, and family.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8005 Dorset Dr., Nichols Hills, OK 73120.
In honor of Susan’s love for flowers, the family welcomes floral tributes. After the service, arrangements will be shared with local nursing homes so others may enjoy their beauty. Flowers for the memorial may be sent to Smith & Kernke Funeral Homes (North May location) or directly to Christ the King Catholic Church. Memorial donations are also appreciated to Catholic Charities of Oklahoma City, where Susan volunteered her time each week.
