Susan Rebecca Smith

     Susan Rebecca Clayton Smith, 68, of Marion, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Mission McDowell Hospital.

     Susan was born in McDowell County, NC on December 5, 1956, to the late James Lloyd Clayton, Sr. and Kathryn Lee Gurley Clayton. She was married to the late Randy Allen Smith. Susan loved the outdoors and was known for her charismatic personality, her love for music, and her hospitable nature. Susan had a place in her heart for animals and loved the companionship of her dogs, Fancy and Bootsie. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Susan will always be loved and remembered.

     Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Christina Smith-Willis (Bill) and Rebecca DeHart (Gary); a son, Devan Smith (Nichole); three brothers, James Clayton, Jr. (Sandy), Chris Clayton (Elaine), and Ricky Clayton (Deidra); eight grandchildren, Haley, Thomas (Kasey), Taylor, Jordan (Seth), Kirstin, Chase, Brian, and Madison; and eight great grandchildren, Braison, Avianna, Barrett, Sawyer, Maddic, Lyric, Jasper, and Willow.

     A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home.
