Susan Strattner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Inc. - Norfolk Chapel on Jan. 7, 2026.
Susan Estelle Strattner, 77, of Norfolk, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026, surrounded by family. Born in Dayton, Ohio, on March 3, 1948, Susan was known for her passion for life, including her love of travel, sports, bike riding, photography, and her unwavering devotion to family.
A graduate of Norfolk Catholic High School and Mary Washington College, Susan developed a strong sense of independence early in life. Following in her father's footsteps, she discovered a love of aviation, flying her first solo flight on her 16th birthday and earned her private and commercial pilot's licenses within the next two years - never afraid to challenge the status quo.
Susan dedicated her career to serving others as a social worker for the City of Norfolk, where she was known for her compassion and steadfast commitment to those in need.
She was an avid fan of the Washington Nationals, the Olympics, and Old Dominion University women's basketball. Susan cherished time spent at Bald Head Island, the Outer Banks, Colonial Williamsburg, and the Norfolk Botanical Gardens, enjoyed cruising with family and friends, visiting cousins in Ohio, and sharing family stories that kept memories alive across generations.
Susan is survived by her four siblings: Bruce, Ann Ferroni-Strattner (Marco), Mark, and Brian (Ashley), along with four nieces, five nephews, five great-nieces and five great-nephews-all of whom she adored. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Marita Strattner.
A public visitation will be held on Friday, January 16th, at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel from 5pm – 7pm. A memorial service honoring her life will take place on Saturday, January 17th, at 11am at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Dozoretz Hospice House of Hampton Roads, The Norfolk SPCA, The Trevor Project, or the charity of your choice.
Susan was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Her family and friends will carry forward her stories, her passions, and the many memories she created, honoring her life and the greatest lesson she taught us all-to slow down and enjoy all the little moments.

Susan was a beloved cousin to me. I traveled with her to New Zealand in 1987. And we visited Emerald Isle in North Carolina several times. Susan, we will always miss you.
