Susan Witherspoon

Susan Deann Witherspoon, 76, of Mount Pleasant, Texas left this earth to be with the Lord on Tues, March 10, at her residence while surrounded by family.

Susan was born on 25 October 1949 in Shamrock, Texas, to Odell and Estelle Meador. After graduating high school in Erick, Oklahoma, Susan attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University where she met her husband, Robert Glynn Witherspoon, Jr. They married on March 26, 1970, in Erick, Oklahoma. After completing her Bachelor's of Science as a Medical Technologist, she supported the family as Robert attended medical school in Galveston where they welcomed their oldest, David Garrison, into the world. Then, after welcoming their second son, Scott Riley, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Susan and Robert moved to Mt. Pleasant, Texas where he started his private medical practice. Their family continued to grow with the arrival of Laura Deann and Paul Glynn. Susan was an active, long-time member of Trinity Baptist Church, taking part in it's founding 43 years ago. She was a wonderful mother who showed patience and kindness through the many challenges of rearing four children. Susan enjoyed taking her children on outdoor adventures on the family ranch, trips to learn history or explore new things, and loved watching her children play competitive sports. She also demonstrated entrepreneurship by learning computer coding and creating a program for herd management. Susan's later season of life was marked by a significant stroke, but she defied predictions and relearned to read, speak, and write through many, many hours of practice. She remained a cornerstone for the family as it grew to include 14 grandchildren whom she loved to gather in the family home. Susan's strength of character was only exceeded by her selflessness and care for others.

Susan is survived by son Scott and wife Olivia Witherspoon; son Paul Witherspoon and wife Lauren Kolde; daughter Laura Day and husband Mark; Grandchildren Samuel, Caleb, Ella Kate, Dawson, Lana, Ava, Lydia, Christopher, and Rowan Witherspoon and Jack, Charlie, Andrew, Luke, and Grace Ann Day; Sister Judy and husband Dan Hoernschemeyer and brother David Meador.

Susan is preceded in death by husband Robert and eldest son David.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home. A service will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026 at Trinity Baptist Church at 6:00 PM. A burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
