Rev. Susie Loretta (Blackwelder) Campbell
1935 – 2025

Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Devoted Servant of the Lord

Rev. Susie L. Campbell entered her new life with Jesus on Tuesday, December 2 nd, 2025, in Lafayette, Indiana, surrounded in her home by her loved ones. Born in 1935 to the late Thomas J. and Lillian V. (Johns) Blackwelder, Susie was raised in Deerfield Beach, Florida, and was proud to be part of the history of that beautiful coastal community. As an avid genealogist, she cherished her heritage as a descendant of heroes of the American Revolution.

Susie was married to Henry W. "Bill" Campbell, Jr., in 1966, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage, family, and ministry. Together they traveled the southern U. S., faithfully serving God and encouraging others. Susie and Bill's love and commitment served as an example for many, leaving a lasting impact on all who heard their message of hope in Christ. A devoted wife and mother, Susie was also a pioneering minister, having served as assistant pastor in several capacities in the early 20th century, at a time when women were discouraged from leadership roles. As an ordained minister in the Church of God, Susie was known for her passion for sharing the saving grace of Jesus. One of her greatest joys was ministering to women of all ages offering support, prayer, and encouragement. At the time of her passing, she was retired from full-time ministry but continued to serve as a strong prayer warrior.

Susie is survived by her children including Debora Waddell of Bonifay, Florida; Timothy Campbell of Augusta, Georgia; Ronnie Campbell of Columbus, Georgia; and Dawn (Alex) Gulik of Lafayette, Indiana. She is also survived by her sisters, Doris Best and Lillian Douglas; her brother-in-law, Harold (Janette) Campbell; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Bill Campbell; her son, John Campbell; and her siblings, Mary June Renfroe, Tommy Blackwelder, Margaret Benfield, and Betty Napier.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Victory Temple Church and Southern Care Hospice for their support and encouragement. A special thank-you is given to Hailey Gulik and Kathy Warf for their devoted, round-the-clock care that allowed Susie to remain at home with her family in her final days.

Visitation will be from 1:30 pm until the time of the service at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 5, 2025, at Solller – Baker Funeral Home, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Lafayette, IN 47909 with Pastor David Moss officiating. A private family burial will follow at Meadow View Cemetery.
