Suzanne Cook was born in
Huntsville, AL to William Reid Allen, Jr. and Roberta Powell Allen on October 29, 1952. She attended and graduated from Lee High School and then went to University of Alabama, Huntsville where she earned her bachelor's degree in nursing. She was employed by Huntsville Hospital as a registered nurse for most of her working career.
Her passions were genealogy and playing piano. She attended Monte Sano Baptist Church, first as a child with her family, and then as an adult she remained faithful to the church. She served as a talented pianist there for the majority of her adult life until she was physically unable to serve in that capacity.
Suzanne is survived by her son, Justin Cook (Carrie); three sisters, Cynthia Allen Yamagiwa (Howard), Carole Allen Austinson (Monte), and Rebecca Allen Bradford (Mike); nieces and nephews, Andrew Yamagiwa (Nicole), Stephen Yamagiwa, Ben Bradford (Lauren), Emily Bradford Davis (Wes), and Olivia Bradford Beavers (Daniel); two great nieces; and two great nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Reid Allen and Roberta Powell Allen and a son, Zachary Allen Cook.
Suzanne was diagnosed with cerebellar ataxia many years ago. It is a genetic disorder that causes a progressive lack of muscle coordination, poor balance, slurred speech, and difficulty walking. It is passed down genetically through generations and her mother also suffered with the same condition. Suzanne's last years were spent in a skilled nursing facility as the disorder eventually made it impossible for her to stand and walk. Her mother reached the same level of disability as well prior to her passing. For this reason her family is asking, in lieu of flowers, that you make a donation in her honor to the National Ataxia Foundation. Donations can be made via their website – www.ataxia.org or a check mailed to National Ataxia Foundation, P. O Box 27986, Golden Valley, MN 55427.
