Suzanne Harbison Obituary

Harbison, Suzanne Siegel

passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at her home in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.

She was born in Charlevoix, Michigan in August 1926 when her mother and father, Vera Groves and Ralph Siegel, went to Charlevoix to see Ralph's father, A.J. Siegel, who was then President of Huttig Sash and Door and took ill while on vacation.

She is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Earle Harbison, her sons Earle Douglas Harbison and Keith Siegel Harbison (Elizabeth), five grandsons Earle Douglas, Jr. (Rory), Ryan Means (Lauren), Harrison Taylor (Elizabeth), Robert Walker (Elizabeth), Keith Wetterau and six great grandchildren.

She graduated from Mary Institute in 1945 and Washington University Business School in 1949, where she won the Morton May Award in retail. She was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta, where she had many friends.

Suzanne had a wonderful, full and busy life. She was a championship swimmer, a good horseback rider, an avid tennis player and an ok golfer.

Her main interest was her family, but she took time for charitable work, including service on the board of The St. Louis Mental Health Association, Bethesda Women's Board, Washington University Alumni activities, class secretary of her Mary Institute class (1945) and co-chairing the MICDS Legacy Committee.

She was a blithe spirit with a great sense of humor and a quick wit. She was an excellent hostess and traveled extensively with Earle in his role as President of Monsanto entertaining political and business leaders in many counties in Europe, far East and South America.

Her family called her "Tudi" and all agree "she had a good run.' The family wishes to thank the nurses and caregivers of RN Services for the loving care they provided over many years. None better.

A private funeral service will be conducted at Ladue Chapel Presbyterian Church followed by interment in the family plot at Bellefontaine Cemetery. A reception will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer's Association would be appreciated.

I know it has been very difficult for you, especially these last few years. She was a truly great woman. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you so much for the wonderful mentoring you gave me for those years at Harbison/Pretium.
