Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kisselburg-Wauconda Funeral Home on Mar. 30, 2026.
Suzanne Snider Pontius, beloved wife, mother, family member, and friend to many, passed away March 12, 2026, at age 71. She was surrounded by those who loved her and died peacefully.

Suzane was born April 15, 1954, in Hamilton, Ohio, the daughter of Helen and Delbert Snider and Patricia Zatkalik. She attended elementary and high school in Oxford, Ohio and received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. Suzanne married John Clark Pontius, January 4, 1983. They moved and established their home in West Alexandria, Ohio where Suzanne served first as Book Buyer, then as Branch Librarian, at the Preble County District Library. Suzanne was very involved with her family's lives and the community, including Cub Scouts and the High School Marching Band. She touched many lives and provided a safe space for many of her sons' friends and will be fondly remembered as "Mama Pontius."

Suzanne lived a life surrounded by books, cats and amazing recipes. All were welcome at her table.

She had a way to make you feel seen and loved.

Suzanne is survived by her husband Clark Pontius, and her sons Zeb, Josh, and Sam, as well as Josh's spouse Siege Pontius, sister Jill Frier, sister-in-law Nancy Pontius, cats Barnabus and Sophie, along with extended family and close friends who will carry her memory forever.

Suzanne found joy in crossword puzzles, books (especially murder mysteries), colorful socks, deep political discussions, and cats. She will be remembered for her kindness, movie quotes, and the lasting impression she left on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

A celebration of life will be held in Wauconda, Illinois at Cook Memorial Park center 600 N. Main St., Wauconda, IL 60084, room B, from 2-5 pm on Saturday, April 18, 2026. All who knew Suzanne are welcome to attend.
