Swen "Pete" Samuelson

SAMUELSON, Swen "Pete" – of Montrose, age 78, died peacefully on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at his home. Honoring his wishes, cremation will be taking place, and no services will be held.
Swen was born on August 6, 1946, in Reed City, Michigan, to Clarence and Hazel (Garringer) Samuelson. He graduated from Tustin High School in 1965 and later earned his associate degree from Mott Community College. On March 8, 1969, he married Betty Caron, and they built a wonderful life together in the home they constructed in 1974, taking pride in doing much of the work themselves. Their property expanded when they acquired 80 adjacent acres, a significant achievement for Pete. An honorable U.S. Army Veteran, he served his country with pride. After his military service, he dedicated 37 years to General Motors, primarily as a supervisor at the Buick plant in Flint. Career highlights included testing automotive systems at the GM Desert Proving Grounds in Mesa, Arizona, and being chosen to work on the Buick Riviera, which served as the Indianapolis 500 Pace Car in 1983, where he met Mario Andretti and worked alongside his race team.
Pete was a passionate car enthusiast, owning and restoring various vehicles throughout his life. His strong work ethic and mechanical skills were evident as he consistently offered a helping hand to family and friends. When his children were younger, he cherished family trips to Florida during Spring Break and enjoyed traveling across Colorado and the western U.S. in the summers. Fishing and camping trips to Burt Lake for walleye were favorite pastimes. In his later years, Pete enjoyed golfing, visiting casinos, and spending time with his four-legged grandchildren, taking them for walks and rides around his farmland.
Surviving are: Loving wife, Betty Samuelson; Daughters: Sandra Samuelson, and Kristine (Dave) Briggs; Sister, Sue (Don) Andreen; Brother, Herb (Cathy) Samuelson; Many other loving family members and dear friends.
