Northfield, MN - Sylvester Elnora Huyck was born in Minneapolis, MN, on August 7, 2008, and they passed away suddenly on February 14, 2025, of natural causes. They lived in Northfield, MN, with their beloved parents, brother, and sister. They were 16 years old. Sylvester (they/them/elle) loved their siblings and friends ferociously, and was known for their fabulous outfits, many of which they made themself. They were a voracious reader, excelled in the sciences, spoke excellent Spanish, they were a youth member of Northfield's Housing and Redevelopment Authority board, and they were an artist, painter, and potter. They baked often with their grandmother and brother, played tuba with the concert band, and loved doing theater on stage or in the booth. Sylvester's annual trips to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness and Quetico were the highlights of their summers. They began training in Shorin-Ryu Karate in 2016, and they earned their black belt in 2023 at the age of 14. Their hard work in the dojo was admired by any and all who trained with them. A memorial service will be held at Skinner Memorial Chapel, on campus at Carleton College, on Thursday, February 20th, 2025. Visitation with the family will begin at 10am and the service will begin at 11am, with a reception to follow.
