Mr. Sylvester Lomax was born on January 23, 1947, in
Honea Path, South Carolina, to the late M.C. Lomax and Mollie Anderson Lomax. On December 16, 2025, following a full and fulfilled life, he peacefully transitioned from time into eternity in
Anderson, South Carolina.
Sylvester was educated in the schools of Anderson County in his formative years, and also developed the work ethic, discipline, and quiet determination that would define his life. Following his education, he went on to build an extensive career in the construction industry as a Concrete Finisher. His hands shaped foundations, roads, and structures that will stand for generations-much like the legacy he leaves behind. Known by those who worked alongside him as dependable, meticulous, and tireless, Sylvester took immense pride in honest labor and in providing for those he loved. To his family, he was simply the hardest working man they ever knew.
Family was undoubtedly the center of Sylvester's world. He took great pride in caring for them, loving them fiercely and faithfully. They were, without question, the apple of his eye, and the joy he found in their presence was evident to anyone who knew him. The love he showed-to his family, friends, and all who crossed his path-was genuine, steady, and selfless, a love that can never be replicated or replaced. In his quieter moments, Sylvester found peace in the simple things that brought him joy. He loved fishing, spending time outdoors, and working with his hands-building barns, sheds, and various woodworking projects with care and pride. He also found comfort watching Bob Ross paint on television, appreciating the calm creativity and gentle wisdom that mirrored his own spirit. Though his health eventually limited his ability to enjoy the outdoors he so deeply loved, his appreciation for life's simple blessings never faded. Sylvester Lomax lived a life rooted in hard work, humility, and unconditional love. His strength was not loud, but it was unwavering. His presence was steady, his heart generous, and his legacy enduring. While his physical presence will be deeply missed, the example he set and the love he gave will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mae Frances Lomax; his daughter, Beverly Lomax; his brother, M.C. Lomax, Jr.; and his brother, Samuel Lomax. Left behind to cherish his indelible legacy of love are his devoted children, Tina Lomax, Marita Lomax, Lewis Lomax, and Taurus Lomax; his beloved grandchildren, Franchetta Payton, Titayana Lomax, Zikia Lomax, Tyreek Lomax, Jermeshia Payton, and Tyron Lomax; and his precious great-grandchild, Kalayah Paul.
He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings, Judy Faye Woods and Gladys Trusdale; his honorary daughter, Tiffany Hoover; along with a host of other close relatives, extended family members, and dear friends, all of whom will forever cherish his memory and carry forward the love he so freely gave.
