Sylvia "Litzie" Bueng, age 83, of
Twin Valley, MN, passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Essentia Health Hospital in Fargo, ND, following complications from a recent fall.
Sylvia Pauline Sletten was born on April 20, 1942, to Palmer and Alvina (Thorson) Sletten in Ada, MN. Affectionately nicknamed "Litzie" by her mother, the name became a beloved part of her identity. She was raised on the family farm southwest of Twin Valley. Litzie attended Twin Valley Public School through the 10th grade and was proud of the fact that she obtained her GED later in life. On May 2, 1959, Litzie married the love of her life, Harlan Bueng, at Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley. During the early years of their marriage, Litzie traveled with Harlan to various railroad depots where he worked, towing their travel trailer along with them. They returned to Twin Valley where they bought the farm that would become their lifelong home, filled with warmth, love, and music.
Litzie dedicated her life to caring for her family while also working a variety of jobs over the years, including at the Viking Snowmobile plant, Twin Valley Nursing Home, and Ada Pharmacy. But it was when she opened the Twin Valley Floral shop that she truly found her calling. A gifted floral designer, Litzie poured her heart into every bouquet and arrangement, creating beautiful pieces for weddings, funerals, and special occasions. Her entrepreneurial spirit continued into her later years with "Litzie's Lefsa," a seasonal favorite in the community. Each holiday season, she lovingly rolled out hundreds of pieces of lefsa and traditional Norwegian sweets, sharing a taste of heritage and home with others.
Together, Litzie and Harlan became known throughout the area for their musical talents, playing at countless weddings, dances, funerals, and local events. Their love for music was a thread woven into their life together-a joy they shared with each other until Litzie's final days. Above all, Litzie cherished her family and the time they spent together. Litzie's flair for life, loving nature, and feisty personality made a lasting impact on her family and community.
Litzie is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Harlan Bueng; daughters, Jeannie (Doug) Lenz and JaNae (Troy) Hocking; grandchildren: Jason (Sara) Okeson, Kara (Casey) Hrabik, Ryan (Rebecca) Lenz, Andra Lenz (Jo), and Alex Hocking; eight great-grandchildren: Lexi, Maci, Gauge, and Braxton Okeson, Sadie and Maverick Hrabik, and Lydia and Mallory Lenz; brother, Noel (Phyllis) Sletten; sisters-in-law: Julia Bueng, Barbara Bueng, and Dolly (Terry) Meyer; brothers-in-law, Dennis (Fran) Bueng and Bruce Bueng; and many nieces and nephews.
Litzie was preceded in death by her parents, Palmer and Alvina Sletten; in-laws, George and Anna Bueng; infant daughter, Deanna Bueng; siblings: Allan (Norma) Halverson, Chris (Bud) Syverson, and Donnie Halverson; siblings-in-law: George Bueng Jr., Parnell Bueng, Garfield (Lily) Bueng, Bud Bueng, Clarice Lene, Marlys (Bob) Voss, Curtis Bueng, and Geraldine Bueng; and many beloved family members.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 1:00 pm, with a visitation one hour before, at Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley. The burial will take place at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Twin Valley.
