Newcomer Funeral Home - East Metro ChapelSylvia passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026 at Sky Ridge Medical Center. Sylvia was 96 years old.
Sylvia was born in Tornillo Texas on October 11, 1929 to Juan and Nellie Maldonado. She was the eldest sibling of 3. Sylvia is survived by her sister Brunie Hockaday in California.
Sylvia is proceeded in death by both parents Juan and Nellie Maldonado, husband Porfirio Chagolla, daughter Terri Solorazno and brother Johnny Maldonado
Her family moved from Texas and settled in Rancho Cucamonga California in 1931. She met her husband Porfy in grade school in Cucamonga and they had 4 children. She is survived by her eldest son Steve Chagolla and wife Linda, son Fred Chagolla and wife Vicky and youngest daughter Joanne and husband Steve Flores. Sylvia was blessed to have many grandchildren and great grandchildren and great great children. We call it her tribe.
Sylvia was widowed in 1990 and moved to Colorado in 1995 and became very active for the City of Aurora as a Volunteer and also for the Aurora Senior center for over 30 years. In the Senior center you could find her serving in the cafeteria or giving a crochet class. She also played cards every Tuesday & Thursdays with her friends. She was the ‘Queen’ of the Red Hat group she lead with over 12 ladies involved in this group. She planned events for them every month. Once a year they would attend the big Red Hat convention in CO Springs. They would also deliver crochet beanies to the Children’s Hospital and to the Ronald McDonald house. She also worked at Costco as a supervisor for the food demonstrators until she retired at the age of 89.
Sylvia was a woman of faith and she would tell you ‘I Pray for my family every morning and night before I go to bed’. Sylvia touched so many lives during her time here on this earth. She loved crafting, crocheting and especially Fishing. May she rest in peace now.
