Sylvia Jean "Richey" Deaton

Sylvia Jean Deaton, 79, of Martins Ferry, passed away peacefully on Tuesday March 17, 2026, at Wheeling Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born November 20, 1946, in Fairmont, WV, a daughter of the late William E. and Willa R. (Murphy) Ritchey.

She was a housewife, and an employee of the former Hart's Family Center Bridgeport and the Fidelity Bank in Martins Ferry and St. Clairsville. She was a member of the 1st United Methodist Church Martins Ferry, and a certified Methodist Conference Lay Leader. Sylvia was an avid Steeler Fan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Mary Hughes.

Sylvia is survived by her loving husband of 62 years Larry Deaton, daughter Teresa (Thomas) Taylor, and her son William R. (Jill) Deaton, her sisters Diana Shell, and Billie (Jack) Regis, grandchildren Ethan, Colin, and Donovan Taylor, Andrew Deaton and Rebecca Deaton-Fisher, and great grandchildren Jacob, and Riley.

Friends will be received at the Wilson Funeral Home-Heslop Chapel 415 Walnut Street Martins Ferry on Friday March 27, 2026, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm with services to be conducted at 7 pm at the Funeral Home, with Rev. Van Fisher officiating. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
