Sylvia Carol "Boochie" Evans, age 77, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, in her home in
Muskegon, Michigan. Born on September 5, 1948, in Muskegon to William Walters and Veola Walters-Miller, Sylvia remained a proud lifelong resident of her hometown.
A graduate of Muskegon Heights High School Class of 1966. Sylvia was married in 1965 in
Muskegon, Michigan to Alious Evans where they resided on Amity Ave. and had their three daughters. Then they moved to Progress Dr. in Twin Lake Michigan in 1972 where they then had their only son. In 1984 they proudly purchased their first home and Syliva resided there until her death.
Starting in 1974 Sylvia built a remarkable career at Howmet Alcoa. Over the course of four decades with the company, she earned several certifications and was recognized multiple times for her perfect attendance, a testament to her dedication and work ethic. Her commitment to excellence left a lasting impression on colleagues and supervisors alike.
Sylvia was deeply rooted in her faith. From 1972 to 2010, she was a devoted member of Zion Blue Lake Missionary Baptist Church. She lived her life as a woman of strong spiritual conviction, studying her Bible daily and praying with unwavering devotion. She instilled these values in her family, encouraging them to love the Lord and walk in His word.
Known affectionately as "Boochie," Sylvia was the epitome of style and grace. Her warmth and generosity touched everyone she met. Whether it was offering help to someone in need or sharing laughter during difficult times, she had an unmatched ability to uplift those around her. Her sense of humor was legendary; she could make anyone laugh even at the most unexpected moments.
Sylvia's love for life extended into a wide array of hobbies that brought her joy and connection with others. She was an avid tennis fan, her favorite sport to watch and play and had a fierce bowling game that earned admiration from friends and family alike. But perhaps most surprising to many was her talent at pool; known by some as a true "pool shark," she played with skill and confidence that few could match.
She also found joy in watching foreign films and Kung Fu theater, decorating for holidays with flair, spending time at the beach, listening to records that filled her home with music and memories, and simply enjoying the beauty of everyday life.
Sylvia's legacy lives on through those who loved her dearly: her daughters Kimberly UpChurch, Angala Grooms, and LaTonya Evans; her son Anthony Evans; grandchildren Stephanie (Meisha) UpChurch, Terrence (Shayla) UpChurch, James Wright Jr., Greyson Evans, and Paisley Evans; great-grandchildren Mikah Pittman, Ellis UpChurch, Emmett UpChurch, Faith UpChurch, and Grace UpChurch; siblings Charles (Landi) Walters and Gloria Keyes.
She is reunited in peace with her parents William Walters and Veola Walters-Miller; siblings Willie Mae "Lady" Sydnor, Albert "Sonny" Burkett, Willard "DT" Walters, Marion "BG" Bradford; sisters-in-law Sherry Burkett and Nanie Rose Walters; brothers-in-law Willie Bradford, William Sydnor, and Jessie Keyes.
Sylvia's presence will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her kindness radiated through every act of love she gave so freely. Her laughter still echoes in the hearts of those who knew her best.
May Sylvia's memory continue to bring comfort and inspiration to all who were blessed to know her.
