Sylvia Denise Hogg was born on February 28, 1953, in Birmingham, AL to John T. Young and Bernice Young, who both preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her beloved siblings, Patricia Young and John Young. Though they are no longer here in body, their love and foundation remained with her throughout her life.

Sylvia moved to New York as a flight attendant, where she quickly met the love of her life, Lesleigh F. Hogg. They met, fell in love, and remained devoted to one another for 53 years. After beginning her life in New York, Sylvia discovered her passion for education and went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education from Adelphi University.

Sylvia was an accomplished educator, a dedicated Mary Kay Sales Director, and worked in administration in Special Education at Nyack Public Schools for 20 years. She poured her heart into every role she held, always striving to motivate, uplift, and help others reach their true potential.

While her professional accomplishments were many, none compared to the title she cherished most, Mama. Sylvia's favorite and highest calling was being a nurturer. She wore the name Mama with honor and distinction, not only to her own children but to extended family and countless others who were blessed by her love. Her home was a place of comfort, often filled with the aroma of her cooking. She expressed love through the meals she prepared, gathering her family around the table and creating lasting memories.

Sylvia also had a deep love for traveling, especially cruising with her family. Those trips brought her great joy, whether she was exploring new destinations or simply enjoying time together on the water. Being surrounded by her loved ones, laughing, relaxing, and making memories meant everything to her.

Sylvia leaves behind a powerful legacy of love, kindness, resilience, and a fighter's spirit.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Lesleigh F. Hogg; her children, Erin Hogg (Nefertiti Hogg); the loving memory of her son Shawn Hogg who preceded her in death in 2011 (Shana Hogg); Bryan Hogg (Aja Hogg); and Jon Christopher Hogg (Jacqueline Hogg).

She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren Ayana, Tiana, Brianna, Jazmin, Nia, Osyhn, Alejandra, Miranda, Jayden, Jordan, Mattison, Shawn, Chase, Hunter, Hudson, Legend, Legacy, and Sierra, each a reflection of her enduring love and legacy.

Though she has taken her rest, the love she gave so freely will continue to live on in every life she touched. What she has built will last.
